The Mindless Wanderings of the Widder Curry

After finding out that I write for the OB Rag and sometimes the San Diego Free Press, people frequently ask me what I write about besides doing Restaurant Reviews.  It is difficult to pinpoint what I EXACTLY write about – because I find that my mind (yes – I still have one -) tends to wander all over the place; sometimes enough to write an article; sometimes to get really p – – – – – off; sometimes just to create a discussion.

So this Labor Day Weekend, alone for the first time in 4 ½ years since Cowboy dumped me, I have had a lot of time to ponder many different things.  Some I’ll share with you.  And for those of you that don’t like my wanderings – DON’T READ IT!  I’m writing this as a catharsis for me.  I’d like you to enjoy it; think about it, but if you don’t want to do so, it’s fine.  Just don’t write back and tell me that my Editordude must have gone soft because he published this drivel.  Here goes –

As a former educator, Administrator – read Principal – I was appalled when the Boards of Education in many school districts changed the starting dates for school to the middle of August.  I have long advocated going to school for the entire month of June – when it is cooler and students learn better, and, quite honestly, teacher’s teach better.  To have school start in the middle of the hottest month of the year is insane.

This summer is not the first “hot” summer.  It has ALWAYS been this way.  And, it is costing us more money, because when school is not in session and it is 100+ degrees outside, the school district does not have to turn on the air conditioning.  It doesn’t take an intelligent person to figure out that if school is in session and the air conditioning is on, it is costing money.  And … if the school is not air conditioned, and the students are sent home early, what is the purpose of early start.  Nothing. Stupid. Idiotic.  Yes, it is my opinion, but I’m sticking to it.

I know that I have written about loneliness before.  It has to be one of the saddest words in the English language – along with floods, fires, earthquakes, tornadoes, cyclones, hurricanes, etc.

One of the things about being lonely is that there is no one to talk to when things are happening in the world.

Like the election of the president.  I think a former student summed it up perfectly – in a letter he sent to me from Germany – when he said:

“I can tell you why that man was elected.  In fact, I can tell you in one word – ‘HILLARY’.  Your country is no more ready for a woman to be president than they are to elect a horse as president.  If almost anyone else ran against the Orange Man, they would have won. Look at Germany; we have had a woman as the head for years and we are doing wonderfully.”

I agree with him, but I am at my wits end because I do not have anyone to sit down and discuss this with.  Cowboy is out of the picture; my friend Eric has moved to Washington; I think that one of my daughter’s supports the idiot – I’d be an idiot to try and discuss it with her -; I am not sure about my other daughter in San Diego, and my third child lives in Orange County.

My best friend is a Trump supporter; does not believe in global warming; and thinks that Joel Osteen did the right thing in refusing refuge to the storm victims.  Can’t have a discussion with her.

And what about global warming?  HOW in the world can someone say it doesn’t exist?  How much more proof do we need? The scientists all have agreed that we need to stop it now, but the orange man thinks it is a ploy of China.  Crap.

These stupid people – again, it is my opinion –  say the hurricane is caused by a former gay mayor rather than climate change. (Ann Coulter – in a twitter – “I don’t believe Hurricane Harvey is God’s punishment for Houston electing a lesbian mayor. But that is more credible than “climate change.”)

Just how stupid can one be – and how stupid are those people that believe that?  And all I can do is sit and stew about it, because I don’t have anyone to talk to about this asinine comment.

And what about this idiotic wall? The one that the orange man said Mexico would pay for, and then threatened to shut down our government to fund it.  We don’t need a f – – – ing wall!  We need to rebuild Houston.

He wants to spend $28 billion dollars on a wall. Does he really think it would keep people out? And who is he keeping out? He makes it sound like only the immigrants create crime.  What a crock that is.  I don’t have any sound statistics, but I bet if you checked it out you would find that more Americans create crimes than the undocumented migrants.  Sure there are some; sure some have been sent back to Mexico only to return – and sure there are AMERICAN’S that have been released from jail only to be returned for another crime.  Where is the thinking of these people.

I was a Principal in San Ysidro.  When it rained there was a steady stream of “front” license plates coming to pick up our students.  I had less trouble with the students from San Ysidro than I had from the students in Poway when I was Dean of Students there.  These DACA kids WANT to learn.  They face every obstacle imaginable, and they are still cracking the books at midnight.  I certainly didn’t see that happening in Poway.

Orange man says that when Mexico sends their people over here they send the worse criminals; people that are into drugs; rapists, thief’s.

Did you know that during Harvey the MEXICAN workers at the Boillo Bakery were trapped for two days and instead of whining they spent their time baking hundreds of loaves of bread and then distributed them around the city. These are Mexican-American immigrants. And when the call went out for help, without question Mexico sent truck load after truckload of workers to Texas to help.  And the man in the white house wants to build a wall? And end Daca?

The acceptance of the KKK; the racists; the fascists now is mind boggling.  What is wrong with America today.  The orange man has unleashed a torrent of hate, and apparently it seems to be okay.

Free speech? It’s okay to say “kill the black people; hang the Jews?”  It’s oky to advocate the removal of people you don’t like?  That is not what our country was founded on.

And then there is North Korea.  I have former students living in South Korea and Japan.  They are scared to death.  Not just of the dictator in North Korea, but between him and the man in the white house they are sitting on a time bomb.  The earth rumbles with the detonation of the nuclear testing; when is something/ someone going to do something?

I can go on and on – apparently I have – but one more thing that is really pissing me off – the constant robo calls I get daily, both on my land line and cell phone. I hear from “Elizabeth” telling me that she (?) is calling me because I stayed at their resort once – at least twice a day.  I told her to go f – – – herself, but, of course, she is a robot.  I reported it to the FCC – every single day for two weeks; yet she still calls, and, although I have her numbers blocked, a different number is used each and every time.  And…I NEVER stayed at one of her resorts. EVER.  I receive approximately 11 robo calls a week, on both phones.

And finally – maybe – I really get p.o.ed at my neighbors that are content to sit back and listen to the airplanes flying over their houses every day even though we are not in the flight pattern.  I am sick of them telling me that they “like” the noise of the jets from North Island because to them it means “Freedom.”  I am sick of them telling me to put earmuffs on my dog; or take him into a room and turn on the television real loud so he doesn’t hear the jets – or the fireworks – or the illegal firecrackers – etc.  I’m tired of them telling me that I created the nervousness of my dog. I’m tired of them telling me to “just suck it up” and let it go.

Yep. There’s a whole lot that has me upset in today’s world.

What doesn’t upset me?  The fact that there hasn’t been a plane crash; the fact that the president can only serve two terms; the fact that I am still looking for a companion; that fact that my book on on-line dating tentatively titled, “Liar Liar” is almost completed.

I am thankful for my 13 grandchildren, but worry about them and their future every day. I am thankful that my children have been able to survive in this world – so far – and have been able to see parts of the world that I have never seen.

But  I have to admit, I do not see much else to be thankful for as long as the orange man is in the white house and has access to the button; as long as North Korea has a clone of the orange man as their dictator.  Nope.  Take each day as it comes; it might be the last.
