Locally, the politics of disgust have fomented a Hepatitis A epidemic, in large part because making it hard to find a place to take a shit is part of the city’s program for the homeless.
So the struggle continues. Resist. Persist. Keep a song in your heart. And a smile on your face.

Please join us for our first ever CAIR San Diego Bystander & Ally Intervention Training. In collaboration with Interfaith Center for Worker Justice of San Diego County this event is open to Muslims and non-Muslims alike and the more diversity the better.
The American Muslim community, among many others, has seen a considerable increase in the number of hate crimes and bias incidents since last November. Incidents like these can be frightening, but turning a blind eye is also not an option anymore.
Our Bystander & Ally Intervention Training will elaborate on how to better act as allies, protect our family, friends, neighbors and colleagues and help dismantle the systematic biases that allow hate to happen. The key word is “DE-ESCALATION.” By learning the basics behind safe and proactive intervention this training will equip you with the proper tools to help a victim of harassment without escalating the situation.
CAIR San Diego‘s Executive Director Hanif Mohebi will be onsite and available as well as our Civil Rights lawyer Susanne Arani. This training is aimed at persons 15+ and above and no prior training is required. See you all there insha’Allah.

Edward Anthony Michael Glover, a copwatcher with uaptsd.org and the founder of The Movement Productions San Diego, was detained and cited on June 1, 2017. At the time of the detention Mr. Forman was filming the police in a public place outside of his home located on the corner of Wightman and 43rd Street. The allegation listed on the citation is one of use of foul language/inappropriate conduct.

As the “alt-right” is emboldened to increasing its public demonstrations and actions, it is imperative that communities think about coordinating responses in the interest of maintaining public safety for all its citizens, while reaffirming that our diversity is the very thing which makes our country strong. The violent demonstrations of white nationalists on August 12th in Charlottesville, VA – including the terrorist attack that that left one dead and dozens injured – lays bare the need to take action in response to groups that had once resigned themselves to existing on the fringe of society. This salon will discuss the history of white nationalism, including the “alt-right” and Nazi sympathizing groups in the United States (and San Diego), the current state of affairs, and the way forward. We hope you’ll join the San Diego chapter of the Truman National Security Project in working to push this scourge back into the shadows where they belong. We don’t need to remind anyone what happened last time a group of Nazis took on Truman. That legacy is all of ours to carry forward.
The format is easy – a guided discussion with the featured guests leading. You will enjoy delicious snacks, delightful conversation, and drinks. The rest of the audience will be thought leaders, elected officials, and community leaders from the Southern California region with an interest in learning more about this cancer within our society.
