The newly formed Ocean Beach Families Association is hosting their Kick-off Ice Cream Social this Sunday, New April 2nd, at Lighthouse Ice Cream on Newport Avenue from 11am-1pm. The event will be held in the courtyard directly behind Lighthouse Ice Cream, with $1 dollar kid’s cones, free bubbles, and a coloring activity.

The OB Families Association is a community group that aims to encourage more family-friendly activities and resources in Ocean Beach.

From planning and hosting a number of family events and parenting workshops, to creating an OBFam business directory and highlighting a local family resource or kid-centered business each month, the goal of the OB Families Association is to strengthen the Ocean Beach community through encouraging, supporting, and connecting local families.

Nicole Ueno, the founder of the OB Families Association is a native and lifelong OBcean that knows first-hand both sides of growing up in Ocean Beach.

“I love this community – it’s a huge part of who I am, and I wouldn’t change that for the world. But it’s not always the most child-friendly place.

The best thing about OB is the connections you make with other locals.

What we’re trying to do with the OB Families Association is build a community of positively-focused parents in the area, to make our neighborhood an even better place to raise our kids in, and to have a lot of fun while doing it.”
