San Diegans are holding a March in Solidarity with Immigrants on Saturday, February 18th. It kicks off with a Rally at Waterfront Park (1600 Pacific Hwy), then after speeches, a march to the Federal Building – for more speakers – and finally a march through downtown to the Mayor’s Office.
(As of this posting, 1,700 have pledged to attend, with another 4,900 interested in attending.)

Rain or Shine! We are calling on all people to unite and march in support of Immigrants and Refugees.
While San Diego has the busiest border crossing in the world and has one of the largest immigrant and refugee populations in the country, San Diego Mayor Faulconer has taken no action to protect immigrants against Trump’s policies.
- We are demanding that Mayor Faulconer takes indisputable action to make San Diego a sanctuary for immigrants and refugees.
- We are demanding that Mayor Faulconer endorses SB 54, the California Values Act, which would prevent state and local law enforcement from collaborating with federal immigration authorities.
- We are promising that if Mayor Faulconer takes a soft stance on protecting the hard working immigrants and refugees that live in his own city, he will have no political future in San Diego or California.

I identify as a working class liberal. I wish no harm or violence or oppression to any one of my fellow human beings. But I do require positions to be thoughtful and rational.
Everyone on the this continent is an immigrant. So what is the point in the protest? Does the OB Rag support the Capitalist position of labor being a commodity that can freely move about the globe without regulation and union working class protection? Does the OB Rag support continued US black opts War / rape culture which creates refugees in the first place? Does the OB Rag support globalism, international bankers and the destruction of national boundaries? Does the OB Rag support the government interpretation of events of 911? Does the OB Rag support elimination of WAR, BLack OPTS. budgets, Patriot ACT, Department of Homeland Security, Surveillance State? Does the OB Rag support the racist, class based and violent oppressive government of Mexico? Does the OB Rag support a sanctuary city for those who refuse to pay taxes to the oppressive IRS? Does the OB Rag support Trumps – Robert Kennedy’s oversight of safety of vaccines for our children? Does the OB Rag support Trumps elimination and reversal of OBAMA’S support of NAFTA and TPP? Does the OB Rag support Trumps continuation of Obama’s LGBT rights?
Like many progressives- liberals, I just want a specific positions articulated by the paper. When major national newspapers (NYT and Washington Post) fail us we need a strong local paper.

John, I’m sure you’ve heard about Trump’s threats to round-up undocumented people. It’s a protest against those threats, those policies and the new actions by ICE, and a show of solidarity with immigrants. The rest of your questions are fairly out there … and have no basis.
When Serra came the village of Kosa’aay was already here (present day Old Town). Cartier came to Hochelaga (present day Montreal). Powhatan villages existed before there was Jamestown. Everyone on this continent (Turtle Island) is not an immigrant.
The non-immigrant citizens of the North American/Central American/and South American territory are the indigenous peoples who settled in the Americas thousands of years ago. There are no known “white” “citizens” who date back that far.
According to the facebook page, 2000 have pledged to attend with another 5100 interested.
The problem goes way deeper than Trump’s time in office. Don’t create more incentives for dangerous smuggling. If you don’t like the federal laws, then protest those, not someone elected on a platform of enforcing them. We should be fighting for a functioning immigration system, not calling for dismantling our border security.
My friend from Canada has been here on a work visa and paying taxes for 12 years and trying to get his green card during that time. He’s spent about $30,000 on the effort with attorneys. Ridiculous!
