I Do Not Remember Ever Being this Depressed Over the Results of an Election as this One.

I Do Not Remember …

In all of the years I have voted – and I have voted in 31 scheduled elections plus special elections – ever being as depressed over the results of an election as I am of this one.  I do not ever remember the feelings of despair every time the candidate of my choosing lost.  I do not remember the tremendous depression that I feel now; the feeling of helplessness; the feeling of doom.

Every single time I pick up a newspaper, listen to the radio or television I am greeted with another horrifying statement by Donald Trump.  It is all I can do to even type the words “President” and his name on the same line.

The wall; the immigrants; the proposed education secretary; the Wall street cronies; the KKK; the NRA; the EPA advisor; the Chief of Staff, etc. The dissolution of Affordable Health Care; the privatizing Social Security and Medicare; Women’s Rights; Freedom of Religion –   I can go on and on and on – and may have to.  And this man has only been in office 48 hours!

I was a principal in San Ysidro.  I saw those children coming over daily to try and learn because their system was not able to handle them. I now work with foreign language students from all over the world that come to America to better themselves.  There are terrorists in every country – even ours!  Look at the recent killings done by Americans.

If one more person says to me, “give him a chance” I think I will ram my fist down their throat.  Give him a chance to do what? Destroy America?

This man has had the world in front of him.  Did he serve our country? Hell no. He had heel spurs so received a deferment; Does he pay taxes? Hell no.  He has managed to use every loop hole available so as to not pay his share.

Will the cost of security for his wife and child cost the taxpayers – of which he is not a participant –be  millions of dollars? The Obama children lived in the White House. Why is he so special? (Trump – not his son.)

Has he had lawsuits against him in almost every venue he has participated?  Damn right he has, and even though he settled an enormous law suit brought against him as “Trump University” he got off easy.  He paid a small amount of what he was being sued for and got the last laugh.  Have people that have worked for him received their full salary? Hell no.  He has people all over suing him for wages, contracts, and broken promises.  How many times has this man filed bankruptcy?  And he keeps on doing it.  Is this what he will be doing to the United States?

I remember my elderly cousin Gizza crying when I asked her what those numbers were on her arm.  She never forgot the pain of losing her entire family to Hitler’s regime.  Quite honestly, I personally do not see much difference between Hitler and Trump.

What happened to our empathy? What happened to compassion? How can we look at pictures of children starving and not want to reach out to them?

Who is he – and the vice-president – to say whether or not a woman has control over her body?  Those are decisions that every individual has the right to make for themselves.  Who in the f – – – do they think they are? And who are the f – – – ing idiots that go along with them? Don’t impose your will on me.

Have you ever visited Mexico?  Have you seen all the cardboard shacks that large families live in? (And, by the way, have you ever noticed how white their laundry is that is blowing in the wind next to those cardboard shacks? Don’t you wish that your clothes looked that white?) Do you ever say to yourself that you wish you could help them in some way? Have you ever brought clothes to the orphanages in Tijuana, or Rosarito, or Ensenada?  Do you think that they want to live that way?

Do you know what will happen if restriction – read wall – happens.  It will not be  just to the Mexican economy but to ours.

Where do we get most of our produce? Are we going to pay an extra 20% so that the president can carry out his plans?  How many terrorists have you ever heard of that are of Mexican descent?

And you know those seven  countries that are targeted for new visitation restrictions all have something in common: They are places he does not have any business interests. Did you know that Friday’s executive order, suspends the issuing of U.S. visas or travel permits from people living in Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.  Not a single American was killed on U.S. soil by citizens from any of those countries between 1975 and 2015.

And one final comment.

My income is derived from Social Security. My medical is paid for by Medicare.  I worked many, many years to be able to retire.  Not comfortably, but to retire. (I retired early at age 66 because my husband contracted Lung Cancer and I needed to be his 24/7 caregiver.)  My take-home pay is less than $1500 a month, and out of that money additional monies is taken for Medicare.

It is inconceivable to me to think that the president and Congress want to change social security and medicare.  If that does happen, I am fairly certain that I will not be able to afford the medication that I now take as a cancer survivor.

If that does happen I am fairly certain that I may lose my house by default, because I will not be able to make my mortgage payments.  It’s funny, because at one time in my life I was “middle class.”  Now I live below the poverty line and there is talk of making it less.  I want the same kind of medical care that Congress has, and if I can’t then they should have what I have! Try that when you are told you have a tumor.

No…I do not remember ever going through the depressed states that I go through now.

I do not ever remember the protests over a presidential election like we are having now. Protests yes! I went to Berkeley in 1965.  But never a protest like this over a president. Let’s face it – it scares the shit out of me – and no “pardon my French.”

I am worried for my family, for your family, for the families that have had a gate shut in their fact. I am worried for the United States of America. “Give him a chance”.  Never.  He’s a spoiled little boy that will get his own way at everyone else’s expense.  Impeach him.  (And while we are at it – get rid of Pence and Ryan too.)

It’s scary “folks”.  I don’t think we will survive 4 years.  So sad; and so shameful.

No person or country deserves a dictator like Trump/Bannon, or maybe I should say Bannon/Trump.
I am so fearful for our country and NO, I am not getting over it and giving him a chance. He is Evil personified and certifiably mentally ill.
God help us.

Jan, in my mind this is one of the scariest episodes I remember. And every day it gets worse. The problem is that it isn’t just him – it’s Pence, Ryan and O’Connell too. And let’s not forget Congress. What in the world are they thinking!

I love all your writings but this one I relate to more than ever. When I get back I’ll have a big hug for you and we can cry on each other’s shoulders. And then get back to fighting this tyrant. Great job of expressing your feelings.

JUDI,

The republicans know better than to let him get by with what he is doing to this country!

They are putting the U.S. at risk by allowing him to ride roughshod over out citizens and other countries.

I think the republicans are giving him enough rope to hang himself but are we going to hang with him?? They should DUMP TRUMP NOW!!

I am so proud of Susan Collins – from Maine – my “other” home state. At least she had the balls to say she would vote against the Education nominee. Now if she – and the rest of the Senate/House would start impeachment hearings I might donate some money.

Two quotes I’ve just run into while surfing the Web for simple answers that could clear all this mess up for me in a way my brain could process. I considered sharing them here and hope they make sense for you too.

“There are seasons in every country when noise and impudence pass current for worth; and in popular commotions especially, the clamors of interested and factious men are often mistaken for patriotism”. ~Alexander Hamilton

… in time (I guess) …

I’ve just found another very topical and opportune quote that reads like this:

“Either America stops Trump’s racist and fascist instinct right away or he’ll soon make her suffer from his apartheid ideas in some way.” ~Jean-Paul Malfatti
