Tuesday December 6, 2016 marked the official 75th anniversary of Pacific Shores on Newport Avenue.
Pacific Shores opened the day after before Pearl Harbor, which makes December 6th both a joyful and sad day for the many generations that have been patrons at “Pac Shores” – as it’s more familiarly called.
Next Friday — December 16th – Jack Panighetti, the bar manager and Kariann Medina — the owner of Pac Shores – will be having a party to celebrate it’s 75th anniversary and all are invited.
There will be free food provided by local caterer, Billy Butters. The celebration will begin at 7 pm and will go all night until closing at 2 am.
The bar will also be serving up it’s famous “Death Nog” — made with whiskey, brandy, and eggnog. People start asking for “Death Nog” in October it is so popular.
There are not many businesses in San Diego that have been open for 75 years! This is certainly an occasion to celebrate and the bar staff and locals are gearing up for the celebration on December 16th.

The attack on Pearl Harbor was December 7th. If Pac Shores opened the day after, shouldn’t the anniversary be on the 8th?
Also, what happened with that front window, did they give up on that idea? I hope so, we like that place dark and cool on a hot day.
You are correct Frank A. Pearl Harbor was December 7, 1941. Pac Shores’ anniversary date is Dec 6th, and that was the day BEFORE Pearl Harbor (correction coming). Wondering how many old timers may have some tales of that time period or if there are people with family stories of life in San Diego the day after Pearl Harbor. Did children stay home from school? Were businesses closed?

Perhaps the spirit of Tully will be in attendance, as well as so many others who have gone off to a “better place”.
I lived with Evelyn Schulman aka EVELYN Church. She got a cocktail waitress job at Pac shores in 1948. The owner then was Mr. Lynn Church. She married Lynn three years later. EVELYN passed away Jan 1, 2018 at the age of 96 3/4 . 1921 -2018. I have taken her to Pac Shores and she said it looked the same as when she worked there.
