OB Sez No to Trump Rally in OB
Sat., Nov. 19th – Noon
Foot of Newport
An anti-Trump rally is being planned for this Saturday, November 19th, in Ocean Beach at noon.
Folks from the Green Store and the OB Rag met and mapped out the event that will be held at the foot of Newport Avenue.
As OB voted overwhelmingly against Trump, organizers hope to see some fellow OBceans on Saturday. They want OB to join the wave of ‘No on Trump’ protests sweeping the country. A facebook event page is here.
The protest is being planned as a peaceful, non-violent exercise of the First Amendment rights, but demonstrators are expected to be vocal.
Supporters are asked to bring signs, chants, noise-makers and lots of spirit.
For more info, call Rick at 619-717-7318.

“Sez” does not lend much legitimacy to the protest. Why not use the proper spelling?
Bewildering.
Way to Go!
Yes! Another chance to participate in an anti-democracy rally!
Typically a protest is done to invoke a change. What change is this protest looking for? A change to the election process? Seems like an incredible waste of time/energy that could be put forth to so many better causes.
Those of us who will gather on Saturday are laying the groundwork for the next presidential election. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
We’re also joining with the tens of thousands of our fellow Americans who have been protesting for 8 straight days now, and we’re showing solidarity with those whom Trump threatens.
Agreed. Policies such DAPL or TPP or fracking are sitting on table as we speak and the CURRENT President could possibly be swayed on any of these very urgent issues.
How about “Pardon Snowden, Manning, Peltier, Mumia” … there are some hot issues and cause for demonstration!
Losing an election only means harder work lies ahead for the truly concerned.
So much energy wasted. Lets hope this crap doesn’t disrupt businesses from being open and no one starts are riot.
I agree with GML. You’re just contributing the division of our country and society. Bernie should have been they guy, but he’s not. We are all Americans. No matter who is POTUS. Don’t agree, that’s fine. You’re protesting now is just crying because your guy lost. Get over it, move on, and let’s all come together as a Nation. It’ll be ok, the world is not ending tomorrow. This makes our country look weak, when we are not. In times like these I think of Chesty Puller. “There won’t be any AMERICA because some foreign soldiery will invade us and take our women and breed a hardier race!”
– Lt. Gen. Lewis B. “Chesty” Puller, USMC
THIS makes our country look weak?! How do you think the election of this idiot makes this country look? What do you think Mr. Puller would have thought of Trump who got out of service because of fake bone spurs? Be careful who you quote Henry, he may rise from the grave and slap you silly for misusing his legacy.
Don’t mourn, organize!
For all the nay-sayers – don’t come. For those who wish to express themselves about those things the president-elect says and represents that threatens our democracy and most of the people within, please come.
We now have a facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/OBSezNotoTrump
LMAO. I wouldnt really worry guys. The facebook page says 5 are going and 13 are interested. I dont know who decided OB was against Trump. Everyone I know here voted for him. At least we gave the democrats the oppertunity to vote on a President. They just decided that all on thier own that Ob is against Trump. Bringing chaos to our town. Way to go Dramacrtats.
Don’t believe it Deb. OB voted for Clinton over Trump between 75% and 67% versus 30% to 22% for Trump. Third parties received about 5-7%.
Even usually-conservative Point Loma voted overwhelmingly for Clinton. If everyone you know voted for Trump, you must live in a fairly small bubble.
None of the hundreds of demonstrations around the country in wake of the election have brought “chaos” to their towns – sure, there some incidents of vandalism and arrests – but compared to the vast majority of peaceful,non-violent but boisterous protests, that’s nutting.
I like how you phrase it, “at least we gave the democrats the opportunity to vote …” hey, thanks. I had thought the Constitution allowed me to vote. Not Trumpsters. Oh well.
Resist the new normalization.
Lol must of meant 75 people not percent. Nobody was there. Ob Wants Trump
You must not either know or live in OB.
I’m proud of ob for not buying in to this… if you protest you should be protesting for an out come, a cause. Ob has a rich history of protesting for good cause, but not for stupid crap like this, this has no cause or out come.
Saying no and marching will do nothing. This is democracy. In turn your marching on the very thing the this country is founded on. I mean no disrespect when I say this. This country is already divided and has been for many many years, thanks to both republicans and democrats that have been controlled by corporations, Wall Street, and the wealthy elite families of this world. Dividing this country was the only way they could break us down and keep us unfocused on the things they truly were doing. The media needs to be corrected they are the voice of this division. They are continuing to do it even after this election. This country has elected Donald J. Trump as the next president of the United States. Im hopeful this will bring change for this great country. Whether this is good or bad we need unity now more then we ever have before. For those who voted for him now is the time to be embracing of those who didn’t, for those who didn’t vote for him, now is the time to heal from your loss and be a true American’s and respect the decision of your fellow Americans. We have four years to see if change is truly going to happen, unite together as a country and support the decision that has been made. ??God bless the U.S.A.??
The decision of MY fellow Americans was Hillary Clinton who clearly won the popular vote. This was an electoral college decision, the same one that brought us George W. Bush. I will never support this decision. Unity? You must be mad, that word is out the window, everything this idiot does will divide, not unite.
I’m not going to argue with you, but the electorial college and process has been part of this country for a very long time, it was put in place for check and balance. We can always try to change it that’s up to us as a country to do together but that only happens if we have unity. Expressing your feelings about the outcome of the election is your choice, but you can’t change the out come. All I am saying is the sooner we get past this, the sooner we can move forward as a nation. If you don’t like the pilot of your plane, you don’t hop on and say I don’t like this guy I hope he crashes…
Just because the Electoral College has been part of this country that makes it sacrosanct? It was set up hundreds of years ago and is outdated, the Constitution has 27 amendments after all. The Electoral College is no longer relevant or needed. As for your plane analogy, it I didn’t like the pilot, I wouldn’t hop on and hope he crashes. I’m not hopping on Trump’s plane and I do hope it crashes.
It would appear since you didn’t get the election result you wanted you now want to change the Presidential electoral system after the fact. I’d say it’s a bit late for that. Rather than “Protest Trump” wouldn’t your energy be better spent campaigning to end electoral college before next elections? If you are sincere that is.
Let’s get real.
Uh, actually OB John, that was what I meant, I think I have enough sense to know that we can’t do it retroactively but thanks for the unnecessary reminder.
How long did Trump say he wouldn’t agree with the election results? That it was all “rigged”? Trump and his people were ready to begin the second civil war if he lost. Well, he did lose the popular vote.
And so now Hillary sour grapes are justified? Because Trump would have disputed a “rigged election” had he lost?
And all this talk of ending electoral college?? In reaction to this very recent election? That one cones from central comedy.
To use a recent OB RAG metaphor don’t be surprised if protests are bombarded by old vegetables
The system IS rigged. Just look at the Primaries where Hillary cheated herself into the nomination. I voted for Bernie, but my vote was never counted thanks to Hillary.
It’s pointless to complain about the electoral college. If candidates were elected by the popular vote, campaigning would be significantly different and would instead focus on population centers. Candidates campaign to win the electoral college, not the most votes nationally.
Change is good.
Have to disagree, Bearded. We now live in a connected world that is very different from the world that existed when the Electoral College was created. It would not hurt anyone’s chance to vote if it was abolished.
I’m not saying that the Electoral College is or is not antiquated. I’m commenting on the fact that, today, candidates campaign to win the college, not the popular vote. That’s why it doesn’t matter who wins the popular vote, because that’s not what is generally contested.
No argument there, the point is to change the system so the popular vote does matter.
Are you involved in movement for Electoral College reform ? Here, let me google that for you:
http://www.nationalpopularvote.com/
That’s change worth working for!
Geoff, Are you involved in Electoral College Reform movement:
There’s change worth working for!
It is never a waste of time or energy to speak up against injustice. We need to remind those that voted for Trump they now have a responsibility to speak up against Xenophobia, Misogyny, Racism, Homophobia, Islamophobia, Environmental Destruction, etc. We welcome 3rd party and Bernie voters to make this a call to action. We need to change the system. Trump is what we got. There are thousands of groups that have been working hard for social justice and protecting our environment for years under all administrations and they need our help more than ever. Time to come out from behind your computer and in to the streets and down to city hall and be involved. We welcome everyone, even Trump voters, to have a peaceful and respectful dialog.
How do you assume OB voted “overwhelmingly” against Trump?? Did you count the ballots?? Just curious. It’s too bad OB is going to join in on these protests….
Because OB isn’t Vista?
Almost fell out of my chair – a good laugh (we apologize to our readers from Vista).
I’ll be appearing at the comedy club downtown tonight. Well maybe near by drinking shots.
A group of people FROM OB and Pt. Loma are joining in, who said all of OB is joining in?
Liz, we have this thing called the Registrar of Voters, and they do the counting. The results show that OB voted anywhere between 66% and 75% for Clinton, and between 22 to 28% for Trump.
“Whatever it is, I’m against it.” Groucho Marx
We get to protest. Period. Trump sucks: we protest. Clinton sucks: we protest. The bombing of Falluja sucked: we protested. Invade Iraq: we protest. Invade Afghanistan: we protest. We have voices, & the entire democracy of the US of A works against many of us w/ voices. I don’t have thousands upon thousands of dollars to lobby government, so I vote, & I protest. The dichotomy of Republican/Democrat works against us all: I protest.
Sour grapes, my ass. I’ve had sour fucking grapes since fucking Nixon.
So this fool sits down and writes, “Saying no and marching will do nothing” to the OB Rag. Is this supposed to be a joke? These visitors to the Rag seem to complain a whole lot for people who advocate toughening up and “Getting over it.” Disagree with your government? When did that become illegal, Nixon?
Why not just form a circle around a bonfire at the beach and sing Kumbaya as the smoke bellows from the inner circle… I’ll be sure to show up with bells on and my bongos.
Henry, we actually need bongos and other drums, and bells, so thanks. See ya there.
Bob,
The “Fool” that wrote “Saying no and marching will do nothing” is probably right. However you have the right to voice your dislike. The poster is correct about unity as country, I voted for Clinton but understand the process. People didn’t like bush, people didn’t like Obama… people voiced their dislike but non the less the outcome was still the same. You can’t call someone a “fool” that is calling for unity when history repeats itself. Especially when the event your supporting is dividing instead of healing. Happy peaceful protesting tomorrow.
