They call themselves marine mammal protectors – the organizers of a rally this Saturday to protest what they call the Navy Dolphin Gitmo.  Their goal, they say, is to “expedite humane end to Gitmo like Navy Marine Mammal Program due to tax waste, national security threat and inadequate dolphin/sea lion housing and care.”

From their press statement:

In late 80’s, insiders found that marine mammal intelligence & military intelligence were mutually exclusive & could not reliably coexist to even minimal national security standards. Adm. Eugene Carroll put it best, “I would never expect my sailors to sleep peacefully on a Trident Nuclear Sub guarded by Flipper!?”

The U.S. Navy Marine Mammal Program uses bottlenose dolphins operated by EODMU-1 to locate and mark mines that are on the sea floor, tethered in the water column or in shallow water. The program is administered by Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific. (U.S. Navy photo by Lt. David Bennett/Released)

Congress funded efforts in 1991 to honorably discharge & return marine mammal veterans to “the World’s Oceans.”

U.S. Navy finally admits NMMP programs are obsolete due to ROV/Drone technological advances that have replaced human ground troops & air support systems.

Time’s Up for defense contractor SAIC to fully replace dolphin & sea lion “systems” with SAIC’s 30+ year old advanced “harbor security systems”!

dolphin-navy100+ dolphins & 40+ Sea Lions deserve Honorable Discharge to far more adequate Sanctuary settings than the boxes of boredom in San Diego, Bangor, Wa., Kings Bay, Ga. Dolphin Gitmo holding cells.

This $20 Million Dollar waste of hard earned tax dollars can certainly be put to better use for National Security or Veteran Assistance!?

We welcome all concerned, peaceful citizens Oct 22, 9:30 a.m. P.T @ Spanish Landing Park across from San Diego Airport or in after action outreach projects!

Flipper is NOT Rambo! Never was! The Campaign to end the obsolete Navy Marine Mammal Program kicks off at Saturday’s Rally10/22/16 @ Harbor Dr. Bridge overlooking the “Gitmo-like dolphin Boxes of Boredom”.

dolphin-gitmo-underseaThis bizarre waste of $30+/- million hard earned tax dollars deploying defenseless dolphins and sea lions made obsolete by technology is a taxpayer’s nightmare: wasted money on abusing dolphins & sea lions & taking National Security risks as a bonus!

After nearly 40 years, Congress tried to downsize Navy Marine Mammal Program in 1991. Retired Adm. Eugene Carroll said then, “There’s no way I would expect my sailors to sleep peacefully on a Trident Nuclear Sub guarded by FLIPPER!”

Now nearly 30 years later, TIME’S UP for this obsolete NAVY/SAIC taxpayer funded animal abuse program that is a threat to national security & an affront to the caring folks of San Diego.
I look forward to helping local groups (Humanity for Animals, San Diego Animal Advocates & others) to shed both light & critical scrutiny on the waste, fraud & animal abuse going on for all to see @ Harbor Dr. Bridge crossing from Spanish Landing to Liberty Station this Saturday 10-1.

The Rally will show Navy/SAIC how easy it is to fix this folly with several mock rescues of Nemo the Misfit AWOL Navy Dolphin!
