It turns out that the guy leading 6 petition drives against new California gun restrictions recently signed into law has a business “headquartered” right here in Ocean Beach.
Barry Bahrami has launched campaigns to qualify his six referendum to go up against the gun control laws signed by Gov. Jerry Brown.
Barry Bahrami is also the CEO of Commercial Network Services, an online business that touts itself “a global online service provider specializing in hosting low latency algorithmic trading systems, virtual private networks …” and other virtual trading services.
And Commercial Network Services are indeed headquartered in OB, right at the OB Business Center, at “4876 Santa Monica Ave # 111, San Diego, CA 92107” according to his site. Now, true, we’re talking a PO Box here as “headquarters” – but it is an Ocean Beach connection.
Bahrami, who apparently lives in Carlsbad, wants overturn six bills, including a measure requiring background checks for those buying ammunition. He has to collect 365,000 signatures in 90 days to qualify each one of his referendum for the ballot, according to the California Secretary of State’s Office. If they do qualify, then the law(s) they’re running against would be put on hold until after the November election. He has until September 29th to get it done.
He told NBC 7 that he is confident he has the support to get it done.
“No problem. It’s just a matter of the mechanics of getting them signed, filing. We got the numbers.”
Bahrami has a Facebook page to get the word out called “Veto Gunmaggedon” and a website to raise support. He said he will have petitions at gun stores and gun ranges. He added that he has hundreds of volunteers across the state, ready to go. “They’ve been waiting for this, I think. This is just a spark in a big powder keg and now it’s game on they want to get their rights back,” he said. 7NBC
His Facebook page includes the statement: “Oh no, they passed a new gun control law, I need to go and turn in all my guns— said no criminal ever.” LA Times
Here are the gun laws Bahrami wants to check:
- AB 1135 and SB 880: Bans the sale of semiautomatic guns with “bullet buttons” allowing easy replacement of the ammunition magazine
- AB 1511: Short-term loans of firearms to people other than immediate family members not allowed
- AB 1695: Not reporting a stolen gun would be a crime
- SB 1235: Background checks required when buying ammunition to prevent felons from purchasing
- SB 1446: Illegal to have possession of ammunition magazines that hold more than ten bullets

Good for him. I support him. These proposed laws criminalize harmless behavior.
Obvious, there’s a difference of opinion in the community and nation about gun control laws. So, what’s wrong with “Bans the sale of semiautomatic guns with “bullet buttons” allowing easy replacement of the ammunition magazine”? Anyone arguing for unfettered access for anyone – mentally unstable or on a no-fly list included – to guns that can shoot hundreds of rounds a minute (?) has to be blind to what’s been going on in this violent country.
Good for the Democrats that they’re espousing some freaking controls.
OB is a pretty liberal and libertarian town, with a lot of reasonable people. It’s of interest that here is a guy with a business in OB.

The ‘bullet button” law was put in place to prevent “easy replacement of the ammunition magazine”.
SB 1446: Illegal to have possession of ammunition magazines that hold more than ten bullets.
This one would make a lot of law abiding citizen criminals. This is the government coming to take your guns,
I wish some of these “freedom-loving patriots” would be a little more interested in other parts of the Bill of Rights, like the First Amendment, the Fourth Amendment. And exactly why are they so afraid of the government they helped elect?
It’s just a matter of time before most of the gun laws passed by moonbeam will be overturned. The state was just ordered to pay the attorney fees on a gun case they lost to the NRA. Most law abiding gun owners don’t want to become outlaws over night by over reaching gun laws. People kill, guns don’t. More people are killed by drunk drivers then guns. So work on bringing prohibition back if you want to make a real difference!
