June Events in Ocean Beach and Point Loma

June 4th   Saturday  10:00 a.m.   Rally Against High Rents at O.B. Park, at Newport & Abbot St.

Tenants and supporters will be rallying to bring attention to this issue and demand that Michael Mills stop his outrageous rent hikes and hopefully to send a message to landlords and politicians in San Diego that tenants are getting organized and are empowering themselves to fight back against rent injustice. June 11th    Saturday  9:00 am – 11:00 am  Dog Beach Clean Up

Join us and Dog Beach Dog Wash on the second Saturday of every month from 9 to 11 am, and help remove debris from Dog Beach. Bags and gloves, and toys and treats for you and your dogs are provided by Dog Beach Dog Wash. Together we can make a difference!

June 11th    Saturday  11:00 am – 2:00 pm    OB First Responders Appreciation BBQ

Hosted by the OB Town Council and they say ‘come out’ to show your appreciation and support for San Diego’s public service officials including SDPD, SDFD, SD Lifeguards and local elected officials. Informal “Taste of OB” brunch will be served for just $10. This event is held in the grass at Veterans Memorial Park (in front of Shade’s Restaurant.

June 10th  Friday   6:30 p.m.  Sierra Club Free Movie Night  “Who Bombed Judi Bari?”

8304 Clairemont Mesa Blvd #101, 92111.   On May 24, 1990 a bomb blew up the car of two of the most prominent Earth First! redwood activists: Judi Bari and Darryl Cherney.  The FBI and Oakland Police accused them of carrying their own bomb and being environmental terrorists.  The activists launched a successful lawsuit against the FBI and Oakland Police.  A story about beating the system and saving the trees; a film that resonates today as we face deteriorating civil rights and the huge ecological problems that bring us closer to catastrophic climate change.
