The National Weather Service – San Diego – is keeping in effect a “Beach Hazard” warning for San Diego County beaches, and it will remain in effect through 10 pm today, Thursday evening, June 16th.
Elevated surf and dangerous rip currents are expected through today. Surf is expected to gradually lower on Friday, although, the weather service warns, rip currents will remain strong.
The warning states:
“Strong longshore currents will accompany the surf at all area beaches.”
It states that surf 4 to 6 foot with local sets to 7 feet are expected through today – although mainly in northern San Diego County. High tide of 5.4 feet is coming in at 7:34 pm today (La Jolla).
The warning includes:
“Strong rip and longshore currents will create hazardous swimming conditions. Waves may over-top jetties and sea walls.”
The Coastal Hazard message was issued 5:35 a.m. Thursday.
Beach Hazard Statements are issued when threats such as stated are possible at local beaches.
