Without a doubt Culture Brewing Co. is wildly popular here in OB. Popular with OBceans and people from throughout the city. And many a tourist has stopped in at Culture on their travels to San Diego.
You may not know that the head brewer and the assistant brewer deliver their kegs themselves in Culture’s own, heavy duty pickup truck.
South OB Girl happened to run into head brewer Mitchell Wix delivering a truck load of kegs along with assistant brewer Perry Hague on Monday morning, June 27.
More often than not, Wix and Hague deliver the kegs themselves in this black pickup truck, which is owned by one of the owners of Culture. And occasionally Wix delivers in his own personal pickup truck.
This delivery was a special summer delivery of La Cerveza– just in time for the warm summer months, plus Culture has been out of La Cerveza for 3 months. Wix considers the La Cerveza to be the best summer beer. Wix also calls this “his baby.” And his favorite post-surf/summer beer.
This batch of La Cerveza was brewed about a month ago and is just now being released.
La Cerveza is a Mexican influenced lager. Lagers take longer than ales to ferment, so most small craft breweries do not produce many. There are only a handful of breweries in San Diego making Mexican style lagers. And Wix proudly states that his is the best!
So as the temperature rises this summer — it is a relief to know there is now La Cerveza on tap at Culture — hand crafted and hand delivered by the head brewer himself.

Ok, South OB Girl, you’ve now opened yourself up to the obvious questions: what were you actually doing at Culture Brew in the middle of the day?
And haven’t you been seen on numerous occasions at the place, especially after town council meetings?
Not sure that the Society of Professional Journalists specifies that journalists should open themselves up personally in the press. Whether I am at a class or at Town Council meetings, at Culture or conducting an interview, is quite frankly nothing that has to be discussed.
Ya never know. Perry is kinda cute in a brewster kind of way.
South OB Girl often goes to Culture.
She happened to be running errands Monday morning.
And she has had a class Wednesday evenings this year (and other evenings as well as during the day time) and has not been to Town Council meetings for most of the year. But keeps track of Town Council events and reads about Town Council in The Rag.
And ditto to Molly… Ya never know where all South OB Girl is wandering off to throughout the day!
They’re parked illegally… And crooked, what the heck.
