“Soft Opening” on Friday the 13th

The owner of the OB Noodle House is opening a brand new restaurant and bar in the former Gallagher’s on Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach.

In an exclusive interview with the OB Rag, Steve Yeng stated that he has taken over the former Irish pub and is opening a new restaurant that will have “American food and Asian Street food”. Food, he said that didn’t need refrigeration.

Yeng wouldn’t give out the name of the new place – “it’s a secret”, he said, but he did say that the new restaurant – his family’s third within OB – will have some kind of OB historical theme – “honoring OB’s history,” he said.

Declining to allow the OB Rag to photograph the inside, because “it’s too dirty,” Steve did announce to this writer – and publicly for the first time – that he is expecting to have a “soft opening” this Friday, May 13.

“Friday the 13th”, he repeated with a big grin.

Yeng did allow this writer to see the inside – and it appeared that much had to be done inside still in order to meet the deadline for the opening.  But Yeng reassured that he hasn’t really altered the interior all that much.  “We spent $20,000,” he did say, “on new A/C.”

In addition – and something new to his family’s string of restaurants in OB – the new place will have folk and blue grass music on the stage in the bar area.  This will happen after the summer.

“It’s not going to be a night club,” Steve said.

Yet – he continued – he will have:

“one major act a month, a national act – with a coverage charge. But one hundred percent of that goes to community charities.”

That sounds fantastic!

How exciting!!!
OB needs a dance floor Yeng family… Gallaghers was only place for miles with a DJ on the weekends and people came from all over the city for it (usually packed on a Fri&Sat night)… I’m sure Two From Blue and Liquid Blue will be interested in this new venue as well (educated guess on that…)
