Bomb Threats at Pt Loma High Linked to Online Gaming Group

First the bomb threat at Point Loma High School last Wednesday, April 1th. Which was the third bomb threat made against PLHS this month (threats were also made on April 5 and 6). San Diego police detectives arrested a teen boy in connection to the three threats, and he was booked into Juvenile Hall.

According to San Diego police, the teen was linked to an online gaming group that made bomb threats – often called “swatting” – in five other states including Georgia, Michigan, Massachusetts, Texas and Illinois. The group also made threats in two cities in Ontario, Canada. San Diego police has conducted the investigation in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies across the nation, and more arrests are possible.

The bomb threat was received via email and the campus was then placed into lockdown shortly before 8:30 am as campus police, San Diego police, and bomb dogs conducted a sweep of the premise.

Attempted Abduction of Woman Student from Nazarene Jogging on Moana

Then the attempted abduction of a young woman on Thursday, April 14 near Point Loma Nazarene University. The victim was only able to give a vague description of the two men. Both were described as 6 feet tall, weighing between 190 and 200 lbs. and wearing dark clothing. The violent attack happened just after 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, in the 900 block of Moana Drive. The young woman, a student at PLNU, was jogging about four blocks from campus when the two men tried to grab her and force her into their car.

South OB Girl normally likes to cover the feel-good news. But news this bad needs to be addressed.

Via nextdoor.com a moving piece was posted about the abduction attempt. The piece was written by the mother of the assaulted young woman, and has been circulated on Facebook and Nextdoor, and was referenced in the Fox5 article. And it deserves to be shared publicly again:

“My sweet daughter never likes to be the center of attention, but it is with Jenni’s permission that I post this in hopes of keeping others safe.

On Thursday evening, about 45 minutes after sunset, Jenni was jogging about 4 blocks away from her campus at Pt Loma Nazarene University here in San Diego.

Two guys tried to abduct Jenni and force her into their car. Jenni noticed one guy standing by the drivers side of a parked car a ways up the road and because she is street-smart, she jogged to the other side of the car – putting the car between the man and herself. What she didn’t see was that there was another man hiding in the shadows who grabbed her, punched her face and tried to shove her into the car.

She kicked, screamed and bit him but it wasn’t until another car drove up whose lights illuminated them that he threw her down, jumped into the car that was running by then and the men screeched off down the street. Praise God for her safety, that she fought back fiercely, and for the car arriving at the perfect time! The outcome could have been much different, one that we try not to think about too much. If it could happen there in that nice area, it could happen anywhere. Please be very careful, girls, and take a friend running with you!!

And if you are one who prays, would you keep Jenni in your prayers? She went out jogging because she was already having a rough time emotionally and wanted to clear her head. This has been quite traumatic for her. Thanks!
