Editor: This poll ran for a week and is now over. For Update on Results, see our homepage.

The OB Rag is running a poll on whether local OBceans and Point Lomans think there is less or more airplane noise now.

The poll is over at our sidebar.

There has been some debate in recent articles that there are changes in the noise level plus we’ve heard from local friends that they are experiencing changes.  What do you think? What have you experienced lately?

So, please check it out – and please read all options before choosing one. And if you have more to say, there’s the comments section below.

One reason for the increase in noise, besides the fanning & practice runs in new areas, has to do with construction at and around the airport. Some old buildings that were in Harbor Drive were removed. They used to provide a sound barrier from tarmac noise & landings. The new car rental building deflects sound into the direction of the Point. It would be a huge help if some sound absorbing
material was added to the new car rental building & if a wall could be built where the old buildings were. I don’t know if an EIR was done before these changes, but the noise from the landings is new to us and really loud.

Alex…that ‘less planes’ will only be temporary…each annual Lindbergh Field Operations (numbers of flights/passengers) (SDIA )’projection’ for the past 40 years (during ‘non-recession type periods’), has been ‘underestimated’ by 1% to 7-8%…and during this time period, you can expect with a growing population & more ‘attention’ being given to SD, more and more are planning to visit San Diego than ever. Don’t you think it might benefit San Diego to have it’s ‘visitors’ (aka ‘long known quality & sustainable revenue’) pay for their presently ‘unrestricted use’ and ‘abuse’ of San Diego’s man-made and natural resources (ie. water, sewer, parks, beaches, emergency & police force, roads, pollution, etc.)? It’s what every city over a million in population does to ‘create sustainable revenue,’ yet our ‘leaders’ apparently are planning to ‘give away that sustainable revenue’….to a foreign (and unaccountable) country…that may leave us soon in a predictable position of being extorted for our own survival as a City. Just what you want, in exchange for a few (short term) ‘less flights’?
