Notes on Candidates for Peninsula Community Planning Board

Editor: The following post on notes on some of the candidates for the upcoming Peninsula planners’ election was sent to us by Korla Eaquinta, a neighborhood activist from the Roseville area of Point Loma. Any opinions or observations made by Korla are her own.

The Peninsula Community Planing Board (PCPB) Candidate’s Forum was held on Thursday, March 3, 2015 from 6-7:30 at the Point Loma Library.

Fourteen candidates have applied for five board positions.  Applications received include:

  • Don Costello
  • James Davisson –
  • Michael Haeggquist –
  • Brad Herrin –
  • Joe Holasek
  • Jerry Lohla –
  • Sam Laub –
  • Laura Miller –
  • Geoff Page
  • Geoffrey Plagemann –
  • Jarvis Ross –
  • Samantha Stockton

Candidates were asked questions about their reason for seeking a board position and what their goals are for the community.

Following is some of the info I took away from the forum.

  • Michael Haeggquist -Architect; issue: growth, aesthetics
  • Jerry Lohla -Retired;  issue: density/scale
  • Brad Herrin – Real Estate Agent; issue:CVS
  • Laura Miller – Consultant; issue: neighborhood character
  • Samantha Stockton – PLNU Grad student; issue: parking, awareness, sustainability
  • Nicole Burgess -Current board member; issue: biking/alternative transportation; PLHS lights
  • Don Costello -SD fire & Rescue construction estimator: Represents Roseville; issue: 30’ height limit; holding developers/builders accountable; code enforcement.
  • James Davisson – Grad student for city planning; issue: Density,Update Community Plan,Continuity
  • Joe Holasek -Architect; Seems ok with density
  • Jarvis Ross -Current board member; issue: support & represents residents; maintain neighborhood character
  • Geoff Page – Construction Consultant; issue: City is insidiously changing zoning; Hold DSD accountable before projects complete, density
  • Sam Laub – Retired: issue: Senior services; likes European planning
  • Patricia Clark– Current board member and treasurer; issue: support community input
  • Geoffrey Plagemann – Urban designer; issue: Update community plan; live, work, play in same neighborhood;design

Elections will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2015 from 4-8PM at the Point Loma Library.
The regular board meeting will be the same evening starting at 6:30 in the meeting room.

I’m sure I’m not the only one curious about the absence of one name . . . I believe her initials are K . . . E . . . ??
