Boulders at Sunset Cliffs – Then and Now

Here’s a quick few pics of boulders at Sunset Cliffs – then and now.

Now 2015 – South OB Girl has been amazed at the size of the boulders being brought up to the top during the construction of a new seawall at the end of Bermuda Street.

This concrete seawall at Bermuda was funded and constructed by the city.

Then – 2007

Cliff fall at Sunset Cliffs. Photos taken by Larry O’Brien on 4/27/07

Larry O’Brien, an expert on Sunset Cliffs, sent us these photos he took of a section of the cliffs that fell at a spot between No Surf Beach and Bird Sheet Rock. His photos are from 4/24/07.

The brown sandstone cliff fell onto a grey silt-stone reef, so the pile is easily defined. I took a photo from each direction. Use the people on top of the cliff for scale. Some of the boulders were as big as a car. Nobody was killed, but it was a few months before we knew that for sure.

Miss that peace sign on top of the “bird rock”!!! Bring it back :-)
