Teachers at OB Elementary are reported to be organizing a picket line at the school, Monday morning, October 5th, to protest the loss of two teachers from the school.
Many parents with kids at OB are upset. They feel the loss of the teachers will translate into larger class sizes in the kindergarten level and will disrupt the entire school.
When we hear more, we will share it.

“it’s late but I just found out that OB elementary is being told by the district that we must cut two teachers from our staff. Not only is this horrible for those two teachers but it will affect every single classroom on campus. We will have to shuffle students around and make class sizes bigger.
The teachers of OB elementary have organized a picket line for:
Monday morning beginning at 7 AM to inform as many people as possible.
We are asking for your support to join us and to carry on the picket once our contract hours begin at 730 and we are no longer able to picket.
Your voices are the loudest to the school board members and let’s tell them together that they can’t do this to our school!!”

Early October is the witching hour for student head-counts and corresponding teacher-cuts, with the last-hired person the first to get axed. This has been going on for years, with some past exceptions. You can thank the District for its teachers’ contract deal with the San Diego Education Association.
I’ll bet OB class sizes are huge too. In some communities of SoCal, all that “extra” money made available by the Jerry Brown tax increase is going toward small classes — not 36 kids in a room built for 23, which is the San Diego way. The Governor’s Local Control Funding Formula is supposed to be set after dialog between every District and its community members: anyone you know on that San Diego committee? Again, I’ll bet not.
