Two Locals Chosen to Be Observers
As of this posting, a simulated airplane crash is going on off the coast of Ocean Beach – Wednesday morning. It’s purpose is to help prepare first-responders for an actual event.
Scheduled to begin somewhere between 9 and 9:30 a.m., it reportedly can be seen from the OB Pier.
More than 300 first-responders – lifeguards, medics, police, and Coast Guard personnel – are expected to take part. They are the ones who would be directly involved in the real thing. Today’s mass-rescue exercise centers around a mock airliner crash-landing in the ocean.
There is to be around 100 “victims” in the water. They are being saved by crews and taken from the water to San Diego lifeguard headquarters at 2581 Quivira Court, (one report has the victims taken to the OB Lifeguard tower) for the medical triage part of the exercise prior to them being transported to a simulated mobile field hospital at Hospitality Point.
One media report says that “Road closures were expected in the area and the event was not open to the public.” Fox5
Also two locals, members of the OB Town Council, Donna Zoll and Trudy Levenson, will be observers at rescue. They will have a hundred people in the water during the simulated rescue – Zoll and Levenson will be observers only. This will all come down Wednesday morning around 9 am on Sept. 30th.
