Toni Atkins n Marty Block

There’s been a simmering shift in the calm among San Diego Democrats.  Two elected Democrats from our area in the California legislature – with very similar liberal voting records – are going up against each other for the 39th District State Senate seat in Sacramento.

Assemblywoman and Speaker of the Assembly Toni Atkins is challenging State Senator Marty Block for the seat he has held over the last 3 years.  The election is in 2016. Ocean Beach and the Peninsula are included in the 39th District.

Because of California’s new Primary system, the top 2 vote-getters – no matter the party – face each other in the General Election.  So, even though Atkins and Block can spend mightily for the Primary – they’d probably both have to go up against each other in November anyhow. Lots of Democrat money will be spent.  It’s not a pretty picture.

Already, the pacific waters surrounding this town’s Democrats have been disturbed as a rising chorus of of claims and counter-claims has begun between the 2 campaign camps. Supposedly, a poll taken by unnamed politicos shows Atkins beating Block by 2 to 1.

So, we decided to take our own poll.

RESULTS WILL BE POSTED 10-01-15

I was called just two nights ago by a pollster asking about the Atkins-Block matchup.
Unfortunately, the survey didn’t include an open-ended question where I could tell that I would NOT support Toni Atkins for state senate simply as a protest against her forcing an internal democratic party fight. It’s really unfortunate because in every other way, Ms. Atkins IS a better candidate.

Marty is good but Toni is the best!

Some in my community still remember when Marty Block refused to sign onto the marriage equality resolution in 2009. Thank God he evolved since but it is a bad memory.
