The Ocean Beach Town Council is taking on The Drought at their next public meeting, this Wednesday, June 24th.
The OBTC wants the village to focus on the drought and does OB respond to it as a community and as a collection of individuals. In their newsletter, the OBTC states:
California’s drought is on everyone’s mind – from ‘drip pinching’ to help your pocket book, to being part of an eco-H2O savvy community, to joining the ‘dirty car club’ – we’ll all trying to do our part. Join us to learn about community and individual solutions to the drought!
They’ve assembled a panel of speakers for the meeting, due to begin at at 7pm at the Masonic Hall, 1711 Sunset Cliffs Blvd – and they include:
- Megan Hamilton, Surfrider Ocean Friendly Gardens
- Joel Kalmonson, Point Loma Native Plant Society
- Richard Dhu, SD River Park Foundation, Drought Tolerant Plants
- Candace Vanderhoff, RainThanks and Greywater
- Nate Bazydlo, The Drought Diet
OBTC Is Collecting Socks for Homeless Vets
The OBTC is also collecting donations of new socks for homeless veterans for Operation Standdown. One weekend every summer, Veteran’s Village provides shelter and services for San Diego’s homeless veterans and their families. And every year there aren’t enough socks for everyone. This year, Assembly Speaker Toni G. Atkins is hosting a sock drive so that our homeless veterans and their families will have an ample supply of socks on hand at Stand Down 2015. Please bring your donation of new socks to our meeting and we’ll get them to Operation Stand Down.
