Mic Porte BirdParad 02For the remainder of June, local beach artist Micaela Porte is displaying her recent works –  Birds of Paradise – at Te Mana Cafe in Ocean Beach, over at 4956 Voltaire Street.

Mic Porte BirdParad 05The show has been running since the end of April. They’re open daily until 6 pm, closed Wednesdays.

Mic Porte BirdParad 01Micaela told us that acrylic paint, some old canvases and bird of paradise heads from one of her neighbor’s yard inspired a binge of colorful paintings of bird of paradise flowers – which all harmonize with the aloha theme at the Te Mana garden cafe.

Mic Porte BirdParad 04The dramatic shapes of the heads create strong graphic paintings. Severed Heads is a tribute to victims of terrorism, may their souls ascend in an epiphany of orange.

Mic Porte BirdParad 03Micaela Porte has participated since 2005 in some San Diego Art Walks, individual shows on 5th Ave. and Ray St. in galleries that have since closed, and is currently showing at the Gallery at Land’s End in Pacific Beach as well as Te Mana Cafe.

Mic Porte BirdParad MicMicaela is also a grassroots activist in Pacific Beach and a strong supporter of the OB Rag and its online partner, San Diego Free Press.

CafeTe Mana is a friendly garden cafe in Ocean Beach, two blocks from Dog Beach; dogs are welcome here in the transformed craftsman style home of the hosts, Marguerite and Jason Cruz, Mic Porte BirdParad cafewho offer an open mike on Sunday evenings, rotating art shows, group meetings and receptions available, all served with excellent organic coffees and teas, and delicious Hawaiian fare.
