activists hold handsHere is THE absolute most-complete and awesome calendar for an Ocean Beach activist – for the month of June. Many of the dates came from the OB Green Store – Center newsletter. So, download it, print it out, hang on your refrigerator door.

June 6th – Saturday Demonstration outside SeaWorld San Diego 10a-1p @ the intersection of SeaWorld Drive and SeaWorld Way, between the I-5 and SeaWorld entrance.  Park at South Shores Boat Launch Park, off SeaWorld Drive just west of I-5.   Open House for the historic folk art Corky Freedom Banner, 1:30-3:30p @ the Grassroots Oasis, 3130 Moore Street, 2 miles from our Demo.  Plenty of free street parking, and just blocks from Old Town Transit Center.

June 6th – Saturday – OB community clean-up; OBTC and CSI-OB team up – Join them OB Veterans’ Plaza Newport Ave and Abbott Street from 9am-11am – bring gloves and a bucket if you can. fterparty is at Newport Pizza!

June 6th Saturday – First Responder OB Picnic – @ 11:00 am – 2:00 pm — $10; Veteran’s Plaza end of Newport, hosted by the Ocean Beach Town Council

June 7th  Sunday  10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  Radical Brunch & Book Sale  Groundwork Books, a student and worker run cooperative radical book shop on the UCSD campus, 0323 UCSD Old Student Center 92037.  Come join-in for coffee, tea and a vegan snack; plus the books will be discounted. Free of charge.  Contact:  groundworkbookscollective@yahoo.com

 June 11th   Thursday  6:00 p.m.  Reform the Citizens Review Board on Police Practices  San Diego City Council Chambers, 202 “C” Street, 12th Floor, San Diego.

June 11th    Thursday  7 p.m  Film Night   “Disruption” – Join folks at the Green Store on a fast-paced journey through the tangled world of climate change: the science, the politics, the solutions, and the stories that define this crisis at this pivotal point in human history.  June 13th   Saturday   Bike Fiesta 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. with the Point Loma Cluster Schools at Ocean Beach Elementary School, 4741 Santa Monica Ave, 92107.  Roll into summer at this all ages welcome event!  Bicycles, skateboards, scooters, e-bikes joining together to celebrate with bike stations, bike art banners, and a  community ride!

June 13 – Saturday – Dog Beach Clean Up with Dog Beach Dog Wash; @ 9:00 am – 11:00 pm; Bags and gloves, and toys and treats for you and your dogs are provided by Dog Beach Dog Wash.

 June 13th   Saturday – 17th Annual Conference on Prisons and Colonialism 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.   San Diego City College, Rooms:  Math & Science Building, MS462.  Join in on learning & discussion, exposing the institutionalization of our Raza.  More info:  cmpp@uniondelbarrio.org

 June 13th   Saturday   11:45 p.m.   Re-enactment of Paul Revere’s MIDNIGHT Ride   Greet former Congressman Jim Bates for a reenactment of the warning ride of Paul Revere.  Modern-day patriots will gather at the Kate Sessions statue to call on the U.S. Government to fight climate change with a World-War II-scale national mobilization to transition the country off fossil fuel and onto renewable energy.  Music and short speeches will follow.  For more information contact the Ocean Beach Green Center.

June 14th Sunday – Pet Adoption Day at Shades; 10am – 2pm; 5083 Santa Monica; 6 rescue agencies;

June 14th Sunday  11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.   The San Diego Really Really Free Market & Food Drive   Teralta Park, at the corner of 40th & Orange Ave in City Heights.  The Really Really Free Market is similar to a huge potluck, where you can bring whatever you have to share and take whatever you need.  No selling, buying, or trading.  Food Drive to Benefit Food Not Bombs:  Food will be collected for the local chapters (downtown & City Heights) of Food Not Bombs.  Read more online at sdrrfm.blogspot.com

June 14th Sunday  1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.   Roc the Love   Winston’s, 1921 Bacon St, Ocean Beach  92107  Join the Community of Ocean Beach in a charity benefit to help an OB Family with medical expenses as their five year old son, Roc, fights leukemia.  Raffle, Food, Music, and Drink Specials

June 18th ThursdayOB Historical Society presents  “San Diego Legends” Featuring Jack Innis Thursday, June 18, at 7 pm at the P.L. United Methodist Church at 1984 Sunset Cliffs Blvd., O.B.—Jack Innis author of “San Diego Legends” book, brings together for the first time the many extraordinary accounts of famous and infamous people, places, and events in San Diego’s past FREE OBHS program.

 June 20th  Saturday  6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.  International Surfing Day  Veteran’s Plaza at the end of Newport Ave (on the grassy area next to Veterans Plaza and the Santa Monica lifeguard station)  92107.  From 6 – 8 Surfrider Foundation will be teaming up with FM 94.9 to hold a great raffle, games, beverages, popcorn and pizza available.  From 8 – 10 there will be a free outdoor screening of the classic surf film, 5 Summer Stories.  Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket, towel, or lawn chair and watch the film from the grass for this family-friendly FREE event!

June 26th  Friday  7:00 p.m. – 11 p.m.  Critical Mass  Balboa Park at the Big Fountain  Come ride bicycles through the streets of San Diego, providing motorists, as well as ourselves, with a vision of how things could be different.  It’s a celebration of cycling!

June 27th – SaturdayThe 36th Annual Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off Festival offers tasty festival nosh, art, beachfront entertainment, shopping and Chili Competition; 4800 – 5000 blocks of Newport Ave; @ 10:00 am – 8:00 pm –
