OB Pier south aerial-edThe badly decomposed body of a woman was pulled from the ocean about 100 yards west of the Ocean Beach Pier, near the end of Niagara Avenue, late Thursday afternoon, May 28th.  The body was found inside the surf line, and brought it to shore,

Rescuers believe the body was in the water for at least a day and probably more. San Diego Fire-Rescue Departmen Capt. Joe Amador told the media that the body had been in the water “for quite some time,”  and was beyond recognition.

The media reports on the grisly discovery differ over other details. One report said “A group of beachgoers discovered a body Thursday afternoon near the Ocean Beach pier” and called 911, whereas another report stated the discovery “was reported by a fisherman shortly before 5:30 p.m.”

The body was placed in the custody of the County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and identification purposes. In cases where bodies are badly decomposed, the Medical Examiner often uses dental records to make the identification. At this point, no information is known, and foul play can not be been ruled out.

Officials say there have been no missing people reported at the beach over the last week.
