Father Has Serious Head Trauma, Baby Knocked Unconscious
About 6:25 a.m. Monday – this morning – , a father and mother were walking with their 5-month old baby at Cañon Street and Catalina Boulevard when the father and child were hit by a SUV.
The father suffered serious head trauma and the baby was knocked unconscious. The mother was unhurt.
The dad, in his mid-30s was pushing the baby in a stroller when the vehicle hit them in the intersection – it was going east. He was taken to a hospital (either Sharp Hospital or Scripps Mercy Hospital) and the baby – breathing but unconscious – was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital.
The driver of the Chevy Suburban, a 47-year old man, stopped and tried to help the victims. He is cooperating with the investigation, police say. The intersection was shut down by police.
One media report recounted that police believe the family was out exercising.
At this point, it is unknown if it was raining at the time of the accident or if the victims were in a crosswalk when they were hit. No other details are available.

That stretch or road is very dangerous and I suggest that people avoid it at all cost. The original story that was linked here states:

My wife witnessed the fatal accident and it was clear the woman driving was under the influence. She was speeding and weaving and my wife was on the phone alerting the police but they were unable to get there in time. The woman lost control and actually launched through the air into the palm tree. This incident had nothing to do with the intersection.
I’m so sorry that your wife had to witness that, it must have been horrifying. But I think you missed the point, that is, this stretch of road is very dangerous and the News 7 map of incidents provided in the original story backs that up. What is left out of the News 7 map of incidents information was this woman’s death.

No Tim, I didn’t miss the point. The accident in which the young woman lost her life was was way down Canon, near Akron and Valemont streets, nowhere near this intersection. The reason for the accident had nothing to do with how dangerous the street is, it had to do with alcohol and excessive speed. I don’t disagree that Canon is a dangerous road but this accident should not be included in a discussion about that.
I would have to respectively disagree with you on that. The whole point of the original story is how dangerous the area is and how many accidents have happened in this intersection and the area around it. It then points out that there have been no fatalities, which is incorrect.
Not sure why we seem to be on different pages. The point of the story is that Canon, and especially the intersection with Catalina, is dangerous. The fatality had nothing to do with any perceived danger about the road, in fact, where the fatality occurred was a part of the road that is not unsafe. And the accident was caused by alcohol, not the roadway. Trying to drag this fatality into the discussion is falsely adding to the opinion that the road is dangerous when it isn’t needed and isn’t relevant. This is an over exaggeration and does no service to the topic at hand.
Please go bully somebody else. The story got it wrong.
Well, I don’t know how you got bullying out of what I wrote but I guess it illustrates the futility of trying to get you to understand the point I’ve made. Hopefully, others reading this did get it.

Seems like you two fellows don’t care to hear any facts or arguments that may be contrary to your opinions, so much so that you both made it personal.
Even Walter Sobchak was able to consider alternate opinions with equanimity when he said, “say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it’s an ethos.”
But, Jon, since you decided to insert yourself into this discussion, what is your opinion on the subject matter? Do you agree with Tim that a fatal accident on a safe part of Canon far from the intersection in question that resulted from an inebriated woman speeding and losing control of her car, has anything to do with some of the street being dangerous?

Sorry for my language when I say WHAT THE FUCK!
What time frame are your stats from? The entire existence of Point Loma, and the entire area of Point Loma?
The intersection (really only meaning the crosswalk) is dangerous. Hell it’s so dangerous that people cross from the persons driveway (in front of the sign) to get to the median.
The city did an OK thing by removing the palm tree. But the intersection is still dangerous. They need to put in flashing lights in the road to notify drivers that there is someone at the crosswalk.
I also want to add that a little south of the intersection, on the south side of Jennings. there is a huge bump in the road. However, that bump is part of the person on the corners driveway. If you start to make the turn for cannon a little early you will hit that bump and possibly lose control.
