Did you see this morning’s lunar eclipse? With a bout of insomnia, I got up around quarter of 3 and went out on our deck, sat down, leaned back – looked up – and there it was.
The line-up was perfect. The earth was inching into a position directly between the sun and the moon.
I don’t have that great of a camera – not a great lens – but here’s proof that I was there during this wonderful celestial occasion. I didn’t just look at it, I actually watched the entire process – which lasted about a half hour, and by 3:15 the entire moon was covered by a giant shadow that quickly crept across its face.
Watching the earth move, in a sense, is what was thrilling. How many times do you get to see or feel our planet move? As I observed the huge shadow move across the valleys and the craters, I could sense, feel our mother’s turning and pull through space.
Finally, the orb simply glowed. That was it for me – enough thrills, and headed back to the pillows. I don’t know what time the moon’s own blaze returned, but for once I was happy not to have been able to sleep.
