The new owner of the OB Hostel – Dr Hostels LLC – owns a company called “USA Hostels” which operates two well-known hostels. There’s one in San Francisco and one in Hollywood, in LA. The OB property makes it their third property.
We are assuming that the company – which was just incorporated in 2010 and is headquartered in Boulder City, Nevada, will open up an Ocean Beach USA Hostel.

Of the two hostels, USA owns, it seems at first look that their property at 711 Post Street in San Francisco is by far the more substantial. The 5 story building, built in 1907, has 123 rooms and 79 bathrooms including 36,780 square feet. The total assessed value of the entire property is near $8.5 million, assessed in 2013. The building was last sold (to Dr Hostels LLC?) in October 2006.
The Post street building – on a slope – is in the northeast part of the City, not too far north of the Civic Center, and in between Geary Blvd and Sutter St.
The USA Hostel San Fran was the winner of a 2014 Trip Advisory Certificate of Excellence along with being named 2014’s “Most Popular San Fran Hostel” and being voted the “Best Hostel Chain Worldwide 2013.” It has a rating of 88% according to Hostelworld.

The LA property is in Hollywood, at 1624 Schrader and a block from Sunset Boulevard, south of the 101. A much less-imposing building than its San Fran counterpart, it also has a 88% rating according to Hostelworld. This hostel was the Winner of Most Popular Los Angeles Hostel 2014 and 2014 Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence, and along with the San Fran hostel, theBest Hostel Chain Worldwide 2013.

So, it appears that the OB hostel has been purchased by an award-winning hostel operating outfit, aiming to make Ocean Beach their third inexpensive “hang out” for travelers who visit our fair village. Good for them.
