Many of the Climate March participants in downtown San Diego on Sunday, Sept. 21, found their way back to Ocean Beach, where Earthdance festivities, though organizers had cross-promoted the climate march, had been underway since 2 p.m.

Scott Stephens, front-man for Liquid Blue , an OB-based band known for its social activism and billed as “the world’s most traveled band,” said a healthy crowd had been stopping by for different portions of the event, though the venue really started to fill in the late afternoon as the justice-minded turned their attention from the People’s Climate March to Earthdance.
Along with Liquid Blue, The Green Store (with whom the OB Rag has shared office space over on Voltaire), and community-supported radio station KNSJ sponsored the Earthdance event.
Fashionably late arrivals (read: climate march attendees) missed what Stephens regrettably informed me were great sets from Country Rockin’ Rebels and Black Pearl, while DJ Layla (also part of Liquid Blue’s 7-part ensemble) spun tunes between sets, a bass-thumping belly-dancing demonstration from local OB dance instructor Adelaide, and spoken-word presentations from Jim Moreno, who turned a list of slogans garnered from climate march protest signs into an impromptu poem, a presentation from Brandon Johnson with Greenpeace who decried the treatment of melted Arctic Sea ice as “an opportunity to drill for oil” by multinational corporations and governments, and a handful of other speakers.

As the afternoon progressed, the room filled and a crowd ranging from 50 to 80 were treated to sets from the 3-piece Sister Speak and headliners Liquid Blue.

All things considered, this past Sunday provided a rather epic opportunity to get off the couch and share the spirit of global peace and preservation with like-minded San Diegans.
