At the insistence of OB leaders, planners and other OBceans at yesterday’s City Council meeting on the OB Community Plan, the Council set the earliest “possible” date for the actual hearing – July 29th.
Forty and more OBceans and supporters filled Council Chambers – on what was to be a fateful day of Ocean Beach. The City Council hearing on the OB Plan has been scheduled for weeks – if not months – for Monday, June 30th. OB planners had geared up a campaign to mobilize the coastal community downtown and with thousands of signatures on their petition.
But it was all put on hold at the Council meeting. At the last minute – literally, on Friday late afternoon, staff of the California Coastal Commission submitted to the City 43 new recommendations to be considered. City staff – the planning department and the City Attorney’s Office – all had to review and evaluate the recommendations – and of course, that will take time.
C0uncil President pushed for a September 19th date, but to a person, all the OBceans who spoke on the issue asked, requested, cajoled – and even demanded – that the earliest possible date be set – and that is July 29th. The Council “is dark” – not in session – all August.
Upon Councilman Ed Harris’ motion to continue the hearing on the Plan, the Council voted unanimously to postpone it for the July date.

Do over 2000 concerned citizens outweigh one greedy unscrupulous rich guy in our system of government? I guess we’ll find out.
