Respect OBSignatures in Support of Plan Close on 2,000

It’s not that often that there is unity in Ocean Beach. It’s uncommon to see every OB group and organization line up together. In fact, it’s pretty weird to see the village so united.

But it’s happening – and I saw it yesterday while collecting signatures in support of the OB Plan.

I personally witnessed individuals who haven’t spoken to one another for maybe ten years – being pals out there at the Farmers’ Market on Wednesday.  The camaraderie was obvious – ‘we’re all in this together on this one’ was the unspoken sense.

As I asked passersby to sign the Petition in support of the Plan, standing out on the sidewalk with my clipboard, to a person, those who stopped and listened to my spiel ended up signing it,  except one couple from Point Loma.

For once, OB is united and unified in the unqualified on-the-street endorsement of what the Community Plan stands for.

Gio Ingolia, one of the co-chairs of the committee that developed the Update, says we gathered over 230 signatures just yesterday at the Market.

Over-all, the organizers, planners and supporters who are circulating the Petition are closing in on the 2,000 signature mark. They hope for 5,000 by time the Plan goes before the City Council on June 30th.

And the groups of the community have all joined in – the OB Town Council is having a discussion and update on the Plan at their next public meeting on June 25th at the Masonic Center.

The OB Mainstreet is allowing petition gatherers at their booth.  During the Street Fair, there will be petitions at the OBTC booth over at the Chili Cookout and the OBMA is allowing additional petition and signature gatherings during the annual event.

The Petition will be explained and circulated at tonight’s OB Historical Society monthly gathering.

It was a unanimous vote to endorse the the “Petition in Support of the OB Community Plan” at the last OB Planning Board meeting.

Many businesses are allowing the Petition on their counters.  OB People’s Food has a great display. Tower 2 is down.

Another organizing meeting is set for Monday, June 23rd at 6pm at Dog Beach Dog Wash, 4933 Voltaire.

You can download and print out the Petition yourself. Petition to Support the OB Community Plan.

Volunteers are needed to circulate the petition at the weekly Wed. markets and at the final push for signatures during the OB Street Fair near the end of the month, June 28.

OB residents are also urged to attend the June 30th City Council meeting, wear blue to signify support for the campaign.  Here’s the website to indicate that you’re attending the meeting on the 30th.

There’s an online version of the Petition here

Sure, there’s always room for more, more involvement by the groups and their members.

Do you have to live in OB to sign the petition?

No, as long as you live within the City of San Diego, we want your signature – as the entire City Council will vote on the OB Community Plan.

Frank,

It might be time to repost my story regarding O.B. taking on City Hall in 1983.
