Test results on possible contamination of the waters at OB’s Dog Beach and South Mission Beach are expected today, Wed. afternoon, Dec. 4th.
The County Environmental Health department ordered the beaches closed on Sunday because of a large 22,500 gallon sewage spill a few miles from the beaches up the San Diego River in Mission Valley. Both beaches have been closed since.
According to the water department, the spill originated close to I-15 along the San Diego River when pipes were broken or moved by roots.
The boundaries of the closures include north and south of Mission Bay channels, the northern end of Ocean Beach and the area near South Mission Beach Jetty.
Health officials need two clean bacterial tests before they will re-open beaches. Results from samples taken on Monday, Dec. 2nd, appeared good, meaning that it’s probable the sewage contamination went west of the Stadium Way Bridge.
But a second round of samples that were taken Tuesday have to be analyzed before health people will reopen the beaches. And they will be ready reportedly this afternoon.
At that point we’ll know whether we and our dogs can go back in the waters at Dog Beach.

We’re still waiting on the County Health people to okay our return to Dog Beach. Supposed to be announced Wed afternoon, and here it is Thursday.
