New Board Member Appointed
Drew Wilson was unanimously approved by the OBPB as the newest Ocean Beach Planning Board member representing District 3. Newly appointed board member Wilson lives in district 2, has a degree in City Planning and comes from a family of active community members.
Town Hall Meeting Nov. 13th on Public Release of Community Plan Update
Theresa Millette, Planner for the City of San Diego, reported that there will be a Town Hall meeting on November 13th for the Public Release of the Community Plan Update and Draft EIR. The 6pm meeting will be hosted by the OB Planning Board, and be held to discuss the draft plan and receive public comments. It will be held at the Point Loma Masonic Lodge -1711 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. City staff will be present to answer questions and receive public comments. All members of the community are welcome to attend.
Proposal to Raise City Water Rates Explained
The City of San Diego’s Public Utilities Department Brent Eidson provided more information to the Board regarding the City Council’s proposal to raise water rates.
The reasoning behind this proposed increase revolves around a rise in water rates that the City of San Diego pays to the San Diego County Water Authority. The increase of cost for the consumer will cover the mild rise in price as well as pay the city back for the water cost increases of 2012-2013, which the City reportedly absorbed and at the time did not pass on to the consumer. It was noted that this increase will also keep the City of San Diego from having to borrow to cover the costs of repairs and maintenance, which will help the City to maintain a healthy credit rating.
Chair Tom Gawronski Reports
Ocean Beach Planning Chair Tom Gowronski made several announcements:
- the OBMA will be sponsoring a restaurant walk on Tuesday, November 12;
- The OBTC has recommended an end to the traditional 4th of July Marshmallow Wars, proposing Police presence and enforcement of assault charges on individuals caught red handed in the Marshmallow War tradition;
- and that the OBCDC will present their updated design of the Veterans Plaza at their meeting in November, date and time TBA.
Reports from Politicos
Interim Mayor of San Diego Todd Gloria will be pushing for a Medical Marijuana ordinance not much unlike the one from 2011. In the meantime Gloria will enforce the current law to pursue Medical Marijuana Dispensaries which are within a certain radius of areas deemed incompatible to land use by previous law and are within “sensitive receptor” zones.
Councilmember Representative John Ly reported to the Ocean Beach Planning Board this evening that in two weeks the Infrastructure Committee will be unveiling a 100 million dollar infrastructure bond which will allow the city to maintain its streets and facilities.
Councilmember Faulconer of Council District 2 is pushing to revamp the City of San Diego’s website which has not been brought up to date since 2002.

Hard copies of the documents will also be available beginning on Friday 10/4, at both the OB Library and the Central Library downtown.
So does the increased usage have anything to do with the fact that those temporary above ground lines burst ALL THE TIME? I’ve lived in PB/OB for going on 4 years now and I can count vividly 5 separate times when the lines in front of my residence have burst, spraying water all over and shutting off my water.
If it’s happened at least 5 times in 4 years in front of the places I’ve lived, how many other places has it happened?
