She  has also studied at New York University and Paris.

Word to the Wise: Week of August 29, 2013

By Kelsey Lynore

Each week, Kelsey throws a “What to do?” spread for each of the zodiac signs. The first card is shown and the other two… well, you’ll just have to infer them from the written forecasts. Mind the heads up and have a lovely week!

Horoscope ramsRams (Aries)

Start from scratch this week, Aries. Maybe go on a walkabout. Lose your cell phone, lose your computer, and lose your home. See something you never thought you’d see. Lose someone you never thought you’d leave. Lose your anxiety and guilt. Awaken to the ‘you’ that beckons as a sultry stranger whose face moves just like yours. If you don’t pounce now, some missive will be sent you to rouse you from your refracted solipsism. I know, I know. You think that you’re in love, that you have a duty, or a call. But if it roots you in place then it’s only your own fear. And fear… well, that ain’t love. Similarly, fearing the loss of love will corrode that love into its inverse just as fast. The cure? Go on a walkabout!

Horoscope bullsBulls (Taurus)

You let go and now you’re a bit stuck. You rested yourself just long enough to be tied up as you slept. Don’t panic, Taurus. You’ll be fine. You need to be stuck, if for no other reason then to see the coldness and cruelty of the person who is limiting your agency. So please, consider that. Study his/her face, so that when you’re miraculously rescued by the gallant hero/ine, you’ll forever recognize this menace by his/her shadow. And you will be rescued — by the insight of a bold child no less. Please study your rescuer, too. You need to understand the secret to his/her boldness… so as to adopt it.

horoscope twinsTwins (Gemini)

At the very moment when you’re at your most nostalgic and sentimental, life will propel you forward. So what are you going to do, Gemini? Dig in your heels? Throw a tantrum? Refuse to participate? You can try, but it won’t ease the tension. This week, the pressure to move beyond past limitations or an overwhelming memory will continue to mount. The more that you resist it, the stronger that force will become. Which might not be such a bad thing! You see, your current circumstance looks a bit like a slingshot. The more that you combat your own future, the further you will be catapulted into it. So dig in your heels and throw your tantrum. Uncontrolled velocity is just what you need.

horoscope crabsCrabs (Cancer)

This week your best ideas and/or revelations will be a result of intense physical activity. And as you are in rather dire need of seeing what’s on the other side of your own veil, I suggest you exercise like the devil. You’re feeling a bit cramped, Cancer. Your delusions and power plays are becoming rote and one part of you wonders if a vacation isn’t the best course of action. It’s not. You need to push through this. You need to come to a new understanding about yourself, your position in relation to others, and your desire. Run. Swim. Surf. Stretch. I really don’t care. Just MOVE!

horoscope lionsLions (Leo)

You can’t hold steady, Leo. You’ve got too much work to do. There are too many things that you do not know. There are too many skills that you do not have. In short, you may be in over your head. I suspect that you know this. But cramming the night before won’t save you, either. An important creative or financial arrangement is on the verge of collapse, and you can neither remain at your current level nor advance further through discipline and rigor. It may be time for a good cry. It may be time to let go. It may be time to mourn. It may be time to say goodbye. Your predicament is ridiculously uncomfortable. But once you do release, you will feel much better. That might not happen this week, though.

horoscope virginsVirgins (Virgo)

Don’t limit the stakes this week, Virgo. You need to assume your own dominance and authority. I know. It’s nice to think that we’re all created equally and that we can surely get along with anyone — but it’s just not true. You’ve got a whip-smart mind and a razor-sharp tongue. Use these gifts and don’t apologize. Enjoy your power. Enjoy your hardness. Enjoy your softness. Lose yourself in your own power. And above all, stop apologizing for it! You’ve pretended the playing field was level long enough. It’s not. Luckily for you, you’re at the top of the food chain through sheer prowess. Take what you need and screw the rest.

horoscope scalesScales (Libra)

Your patience, your labor, your blood, sweat, and tears… they won’t get you anywhere if you lose your soul in the process, Libra. Don’t forget who you are! You are fun. You are daring. You are impetuous. And you are romantic. The more rational, stable, and reasonable that you pretend to be, the more a powerful person (most probably a woman; or even your living ideal of femininity) will oppose you. So how do you woo her? The answer lies in the question. Woo! That’s what you do best. It’s not your style to prove anything. Instead, overpower her with your cheeky optimism and charm. Even if you fail to convince her, you will succeed in convincing yourself. And that’s what really matters this week.

Horoscope scorpsScorpions (Scorpio)

You’re inclined to test your meddle this week, Scorpio, and your inclination is spot on. Just don’t limit the stakes at the very moment that you rush in to the fray. I mean that. And there is a danger. These past few weeks have seen you disciplining your desires and honing your skills. But you’re now ready to unleash them… on others! So let them flow. Let them gush. And if you should hesitate, recall a moment in your youth where you acted purely, successfully, without any inhibitions. That’s what you’re going for this week — The mastery of the child. This mastery isn’t the consequence of rigor and restraint so much as exuberance and love. Remember that, feel that, and you’ll come out on top.

horoscope satyrsSatyrs (Sagittarius)

You stand to have a banner week, Sadge. Love, joy, optimism, community involvement, and stable support from friends and family. So what’s eating at you? What’s gnawing away at your enjoyment and happiness? The sneaking suspicion that life must suck? Or that you aren’t worthy? Beware humility. It doesn’t become you. The success that you stand to garner has been merited by your own conduct and capacities. Be proud of that and enjoy its fruit. Contentment is yours for the taking pending you don’t pick it apart. Appreciate. Don’t analyze.

Horoscope seagoatsSea-Goats (Capricorn)

You know how talented you are, Capricorn. Don’t waste your time trying to prove it to others. You have a calling, an internalized future or becoming that is only now beginning to germinate. Tend to that promise even if you can’t understand it. The fact that you feel it is sufficient. Prove nothing and avoid all conflict. Others can’t help you. However, if you follow your intuition and greatest unconscious hope, you’ll find that your creativity blossoms and unfurls in the most appealing fashion. You have a trick up your sleeve that no one suspects, not even you. This week, you discover just what that trick is. Prepare to be amazed!

Horoscope water-bearersWater-Bearers (Aquarius)

Your biggest enemy this week is your sense of propriety. Do not limit the stakes. Do not be prudent. And do not be rational. Let go and enjoy. Imbibe. Lose yourself. Forget your sad little “I.” Your ego has been dictating the boundaries of your life for far too long, Aquarius. Indeed, it has conned you into believing that you can harmonize the incompatible by playing mediator or referee. How arrogant! How doomed to failure! You need some good old fashioned Bacchanalia. So forget the duties that you have set yourself and let the chips fall where they may. Control is your foe and your intellect will only serve to blinker you. Let go.

horoscope fishesFishes (Pisces)

There is something that you need to articulate, Pisces, some intuition or judgment that you need to communicate. But you won’t achieve this by declaring war or waging a battle all by your lonesome. Indeed, should you attempt the lone wolf stance, you will find yourself in the uncomfy position of screaming into the void. The tactics that worked last week will not work now. So you need an ally, some dulcet woman of intuition and insight. I suspect that you know who. Team up with her ASAP and she will harmonize with your message and give it more heft. This week, you need to be heard.

Welcome – and spot on! I’m on the cusp of Gemini & Cancer. . .

Thanks Terrie! Do you know which sign you technically fall under? I’m a Virgo Sun… hence my interest in these specifics. Haha.

Ah yes, well, I have Virgo rising! I’m on June 23 at 11:59am, and id as a moon child, and yet. . .those Gemini scopes are always spot on. I also read the Virgo. . .

In the Chinese system, I’m a Fire Monkey, but a spiritually-oriented one, so I’m not sneaky unless I’m playing and my heart is in the right place.

Whatever works! Don’t ever get bogged down in dogma. I’ve got a Cancer Moon and Rising and my Sun’s in the 3rd House (Gemini’s House). I’m a Monkey, too, but Metal. So we have quite a bit in common astrologically. :)

I had a feeling we did. Love your writing style.

I’m not dogmatic about it, but it does get interesting. . .

Kelsey, you are the One we’ve been waiting for! The OB Rag finally has a horoscope!
This beats community planning meetings and politics and cops parked permanently at the pier. Very fun and ever so helpful. Thanks!

Hahaha. Thanks, Frances! The importance of fun increases, I think, as innate or automatic pleasure decreases. The news hasn’t been pleasurable for a long, long time. But then, we can technically change that. Which is hopeful! Really glad you enjoyed the scopes. ;)

Thanks Micaela! The Tarot cards are from the Salvador Dali Universal deck. They’re pretty amazing cards; they’re collages of classical paintings.
I haven’t yet done a reading for this fair city. What are your thoughts?

Thanks Doug. :) Though if you’re serious about playing, pick a card between 1-78 as to what drives Mike Aguirre and I’ll tell you. Haha.

Great. What’s next? Shall the OB Rag employ one indigenous individual to dance for rain?
I’m done. Bye.

Ooooh. Moral outrage over Tarot! Relax. I’m a volunteer. Although if any one object or being was in desperate need of a rain dance, I bet it would be an unWasheDwalmArtHong.

Kelsey- what fun to see Salvador Dalí on a Tarot Card. Je suis fou de Dalí! I hope you keep it surreal. Welcome to the OBRag.

Merci, Anna! Et très jolis accents! I love him, too. And I will (of course!) be keeping it surreal. Take care. ;)
