Oxygen Masks for Dogs First Used in OB
10News: Local firefighters and first responders now have the necessary equipment to help save pets thanks to the efforts of a nonprofit group. No one can forget the scene in Ocean Beach last December when firefighters had a four-year-old dog named Spyder hooked up to an oxygen mask and administering CPR.
Numerous rescues like this have taken place throughout San Diego County, but now crews are better prepared for any future incidents. “It’s going to standardize the equipment that we use and there won’t be a delay in trying to figure out how to put an adult mask or something that works on a human on a pet,” San Diego Fire-Rescue Capt. Harold Lemire told 10News. The pet oxygen mask kit has three different sized masks, and its unique shape and rubber seal gives pets in an emergency the best chance for survival.
OB Noodle House Gets Thumbs Up for Sidewalk Cafe From Planners
Steve Wang Yeng- one of the owners of the OB Noodle House – appeared at the recent meeting of the OB Planning Board, requesting sidewalk seating in front of his restaurant on Cable Street. OB Noodle House wants to construct a 485 square foot “sidewalk cafe” as part of their popular place, complaining of the proximity to traffic and a sloping sidewalk that makes the current seating in front of the restaurant uncomfortable and even somewhat dangerous. The OB restaurant group supports their request, as does the OB Town Council and Mainstreet Association.
And at their meeting of May 1, the planners voted 9 – 0 – 1 in favor of the request by the restaurant, which was just recently visited by a well-known TV foodie.
OB Plan Update to be Presented at Planning Board Meeting on June 5th
The City planner assigned to the OB Precise Plan Update announced the other night at the Planning Board meeting that the Plan Update will be presented at the June 5th Planning Board meeting. It will also be presented on May 9th to the Plan Update sub-committee. After the OBPB presentation, there will be a 60 day public review period. And it is expected to reach the City Council sometime in November.
Blue Tsunami Occasional Wave of the Future
FOX 5 : A flood is working its way through San Diego cleaning up the streets, but it has nothing to do with water. “We noticed it right off the bat,” said Denny Knox of Ocean Beach Mainstreet Association. “Lots of police, lots of police cars.”
The Blue Tsunami moved into Ocean Beach over the weekend. It’s the newest crime fighting tool for the western division of the San Diego Police Department.
“It’s a wave of blue uniforms and black and white police cars,” said Lt. Natalie Stone. “Whether it’s street robberies, transient issues assaults or whatever we’re here to address it. Lt. Stone said the division devised the operation after the community raised numerous concerns about crime.
Point Loma High Tech High Wins World Robotic Award
U-T San Diego: The status of the robotics team at High Tech High in Point Loma ranks so high, it just might be on par with varsity football in Texas. So when the team known as the Holy Cows won top honors at the largest, most prestigious school robotics world championship in St. Louis this past weekend, it was a really big deal.
“Winning this award was quite possibly the proudest and happiest moment of my life. I still can’t believe it,” said Carmel Fiscko, 17. “It’s the first time I put so much of myself into working for a goal. It paid off in a way that has changed my life.”
The Holy Cows were among 58 of the best-ranked robotics teams eligible to compete for the Chairman’s Award at the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis. All told, about 10,000 students from the U.S. and abroad participated in the competition before a crowd of 25,000.

OB Surfing Legend “Mouse” Turns 80 – and Gets His Day from City Council
San Diego Reader: Jim “Mouse” Robb Day declared by San Diego City Council. In the quiet neighborhood of Azure Vista (now more widely known as Sunset Cliffs) a happening went down on April 27. It was quite a scene, attended by cats with names such as Lizard, Tar, Bud, Crobes, Tbone, Smeurz, Butter, CR, DC, Skippy, Hooty Hoo, Gidget, Bird, Shack, and about 200 friends and family of Jim “Mouse” Robb.
The occasion was the celebration of Mouse’s 80th birthday. The Sunset Cliffs Surfing Association put on the shindig, and surfers from all up and down the coast and the islands were there. But there was more to it than just a surfer stomp; it was a gathering of the tribe and a true community celebration of a man who has touched the lives of countless people.

Mercy – thanks for the correction. I was sitting a good number of rows behind Mr Yeng when he was speaking, and was only introduced once by his lawyer.
