The only Catholic school in Ocean Beach is closing its doors at the end of the current semester. Essentially, insufficient tuition-paying students is the problem.  The building will continue to be used, however. But this is it for the Sacred Heart Academy, located since 1950 at the corner of Cable Street and Saratoga Avenue – two blocks north of Newport Ave.  See Tom Fudge’s report from KPBS.

Council Approves San Diego River Park Master Plan – From Ocean Beach to Julian

On Monday, May20th, the  San Diego City Council approved a master plan intended to guide future development along a 17.5-mile stretch of the San Diego River. Long-term plans call for a river-long park, stretching from the San Diego River headwaters in Julian, to the Pacific Ocean at Ocean Beach.  See San Diego Business Journal, and Mission Times Courier.

 Mayor Filner, OB Merchants and Handcraft Peddlers Should See the Embarcadero As Example

The Voice of San Diego says that Mayor Filner, the merchants in OB, and those peddlers of home-made handcrafts who wish to sell their stuff without permits all have a lesson to learn from the Port of San Diego and what they’ve ushered in at the Embarcadero on the waterfront.  The Port has outlined allotted spaces for artists to sell their work or perform without securing a commercial permit.

I spent 12 years going to catechism classes at Sacred Heart, every Monday afternoon. Except for the 9th-12th grade it was Monday evening. Missed a whole lot of Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In.
