UPDATE: SDG&E now say hit-and-run car crash caused outage; all power should be restored by 1 pm
San Diego Gas & Electric said a hit-and-run car crash involving a power pole has left about 146 customers in central San Diego without electricity Thursday morning, down from a high of about 2,400. San Diego police said the crash occurred at around 4:06 a.m. on Pringle Street near San Diego Avenue. According to the company’s website, the outage was affecting customers in the Mission Hills area. SDG&E crews said they were working to repair the damage and restore service around 1 p.m.
Close to 3,000 SDG&E consumers awoke this morning – Thursday, March 14, without power. Customers in Ocean Beach, the Midway District, Old Town and other neighborhoods near San Diego’s Lindbergh Field lost power in the wee early hours, beginning right after 4 a.m.
Most had no electricity for only about an hour, SDG&E reported. Lindbergh Field itself was not affected. By around 5 a.m., power was restored to everyone except about 500 486 customers.
SDG&E stated that the outage – the cause of which has not been determine – would be fully resolved by about 6:30 a.m.
The outage affected parts of Ocean Beach, the Midway District, Old Town, Mission Hills and Hillcrest, according to SDG&E’s website.
