The annual election for the Ocean Beach Planning Board will be held Tuesday, March 12th. Balloting will occur from 4 pm to 7pm at the Ocean Beach Recreation Center, 4726 Santa Monica Avenue.
All OB citizens are eligible to vote, as long as they live, own property, or represent a business in the Ocean Beach Planning Area (see map). Voters should show up with some kind of proof of their residency in OB (utility bill suffices).
Half of the 14 Board positions are up for election. Voters in the 7 Districts elect their represenatives.
Also on the ballot are two advisory propositions.
One is the issues is the Police – trailer. The trailer has been located at the OB Pier Parking lot for 14 years, despite its temporary nature.
The other referendums on the ballot is question on whether to create a Maintenance Assessment District, which is funded by a property-tax assessment, for better infrastructure and new public projects.

I voted Yes on the Maintenance Assessment District and No to keep the Police Trailer in the same parking lot next to the pier where it has been forever. I get it. OBMA wants to unload the trailer on YOU, Mr/Ms taxpayer so that they don’t have to pay for it to be retrofitted. God forbid a dime of money they are putting in their own pockets (giving themselves annual bonuses when most of us who work in the public sector haven’t seen a bonus in 5 years) go to maintain a police outpost that would protect the shops and businesses whose taxes are the reason OBMA exists. Seeing as the Police are needed for OBMA events like Oktoberfest where people are getting stabbed and the annual chili cookoff where people get pissed off and start fighting over parking, I think the Police need to be encouraged to stay where they are needed most–downtown OB as close to the pier as possible. That’s where most people congregate, and that is where the largest congregation of establishments serving alcohol are located. Now how do I get establishing 24-hour watch of the OB/Point Loma shoreline to thwart drug/human smuggling, on a ballot?
