Within the small support group of widows that I am part of, three of our husband’s are buried at Ft. Rosecrans. So two of us thought we would start the day by a trip to “see” them. Even though one of our members was ill and not with us, she “talked” to her buried hubby via my cell phone and made her feel better for the day.

Then Candy and I went to the “Living Room Coffeehouse” on Rosecrans. We had never been there and we thought by going there we would avoid a crowd at the more popular Sunday breakfast restaurants. We were right.  In the Living Room there are many small rooms available, couches, an outdoors, etc. so even if it was crowded it would not have been apparent to us.

We looked at the extensive menu and at the specials of the day, and both Candy and I decided to try the breakfast croissant special – scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese croissant served with fresh fruit – orange, grapes, honeydew, and pineapple. The cost was $6.95 – not bad for a filling meal, and I had a small chai tea latte for $3.75. Candy had water, which appeared not to be filtered but straight from the tap.

In placing our order, I specifically asked what kind of cheese was used on the croissant and she told me that she wasn’t sure, but finally said it was Mozzarella. It wasn’t. It was either Cheddar or American. The plate was presented well – small pieces of fruit, and all except the honeydew were ripe and tasty.

However, I was disappointed with the cheese, but nowhere as disappointed as seeing the egg shell on the eggs. I guess I should be pleased that real eggs were used rather than artificial ones, but if you have ever eaten an egg shell you know how unpleasant that can be. And the bacon was almost raw. But my Chai tea was good.

The egg shell and undercooked bacon.

When we were checking out I asked if there was a “take-out” menu but was told there wasn’t one. They had some menus there – new ones I was told – but they were laminated and the gal at the cash register told me that the owner would be upset if one was missing, even though I offered to return it. I informed her that I was doing a review of the restaurant – gave her my card – and then she told me the menu was on line. Here it is.

Would I return to the Living Room Coffeehouse – no, I don’t think I would. It was very disjointed; the servers were not sure of the products they were selling, as they were very pleasant but seemed uninformed. But I don’t like eggshells in my food; I don’t like under-cooked bacon; and I don’t like American or Cheddar cheese when I am told it will be something else. Too bad, because it is cute, eclectic, and could be relaxing and fun.

It IS a cute 2-story old house. But I have to agree wid ya Judi, I had raw bacon there also, and that was a couple years ago.
