Police Believe Suspect Lives in OB
According to San Diego Police, a three week relationship built online has ended as a horrible nightmare for a woman, and a hunt for the man she met over the internet has begun. Lt Natalie Stone confirmed a report that an OB woman was raped Sunday morning – after being drugged while on a first date with a man who lives in Ocean Beach.
Police are confident the suspect lives nearby and they are currently performing DNA testing, as part of their on-going investigation.
The rape was reported early Sunday morning on November 3rd, and this most recent crime fits into an ongoing pattern of late in Ocean Beach of crimes against women.
The unidentified victim told police she was unable to fight back, after her internet date-rapist gave her a glass of water when they arrived at the attackers home in Ocean Beach. The two had spent an evening at dinner, together, prior to the attack.
Escaping the rapists home, the woman barely managed to get to her car, she told police. Still drugged and totally unaware of her surroundings, she called 911 for help, but was unable to provide an exact address where the crime occurred. Lt. Stone of the SDPD stated they have it “pinned to a one block radius”.

So 3 days have gone by and no word in the media about this ??
Really! If it’s “according to SDPD” . . . this story and a composite sketch (unless she was blindfolded during dinner) or his pic from the dating site (unless it was a fake), with an approximate scene of crime location, should’ve been immediately released to local media.
I hate to bring this up, perhaps the story wasn’t published because SDPD has some doubts to its validity. Several other reported “rapes” in the past year have turned out to be bogus, after extensive manhunts where innocent people were wrongly accused. I’m still uncertain which of the recent sex-related crimes in OB are truth, rumor or exaggerations (with the exception of the two that occurred in the vicinity of Muir Ave).
How did OB Rag learn about this crime?
As stated above, we spoke to SDPD. This is the only way to get the current status of the investigation. If you would like to know more facts, even SDPD has acknowledged my posts are factual, and over the past month i have been sorting out the hype from bloggers and Mainstream news, and providing follow up after the hype has blown over. We will continue to follow up in this and other important investigations.

It it’s “pinned to a one block radius”, I’d like to know if it’s the vicinity of “my block”. After the recent series of sex-related assaults, there appears to be a communication breakdown between SDPD, the media and local residents.
What’s the problem? Fear of a vigilante response? Lack of publicity fueled “residents to take matters into their own hands”, as described in a news story that generated more media attention than the crime itself.
In the meantime, OB residents remain clueless about this recent offender’s description, possible residence, and if he’s linked to other sex crimes that scourge the reputation of my community.

Well stated, on all points. Part of my research proves the need to continue balancing rumor and reports, fact and emotion, as these are highly sensitive topics. While shrinking from alarmists, in general, i can only conclude OB is seeing another crime spike, as we saw in 2008. While I am still new at the task of investigative writing, my experience and analysis of the data shows is an increase not only in crime, but MOST concerning! I believe OB is seeing an increase in crime against woman.
If this is the case, we will find out soon, and post our report.

Following up on this, as it may not be clear the victim is willing to subject herself to the ordeal of prosecution, allowing police to pursue this further. Not an unusual issue, from experience.
We should have the guys DNA, so he is not going anywhere. He, then, is marked for life.
Also, the next biggest threat is another internet victim, which leaves another set of fingerprints to follow right?

Maybe this is the reason the SDPD has not widely publicized the crime. Maybe they are actively involved in the case and have not made it known . Let’s hope so.
Right, Jim? Great question! SDPD are good at this part of their job, providing community channels to obtain public information, as we’ve attributed in each posting.

I think it’s fine they might read that people know about their crimes, but don’t demand SDPD tell us everything they are doing about it (and scream bloody murder if it doesn’t sound like enough) is the point of concern.
Some aspects of the investigation are best kept quiet as they are not effective if the perp knows about it.
UPDATE: SDPD reconfirm they are oursuing all avenues to move this case forward, and they issue a reminder , per Lt. Stone on Wednesday, “everyone you meet online is not always who they appear to be…I always suggest meeting the person in public and with a friend (safety in numbers!).”
