Around sunset Sunday evening, the Coast Guard suspended its search for a vessel in distress off the coast of Point Loma.

According to lifeguards, the Coast Guard was searching for a white and green vessel carrying two adults and three children.

A helicopter also had joined boat crews looking for the boat after someone on it made a collect call to U.S. Customs and Border Protection around 2 p.m. Sunday.  A Coast Guard rep reported that the person said five people were on the boat when it took on water somewhere off the Point Loma neighborhood. Also assisting in the search were the Harbor Police, the Fire Department, and lifeguards.

After a little more than four hours, the Coast Guard suspended the search. They had not been ableto contact the caller for more information and there has been no missing persons report given.
