The Loss of Public Space and Growth of Corporate State

Elected officials continue to represent the special interest lobbyists padding their pockets rather than the constituents they are elected to represent. Here in Southern California, we are watching more of our public space be taken away and converted into Wal Marts, paid parking lots, and the like. While citizens work together and attend city council meetings to point out the protections that should preserve the space, corporations and politicians work together to bypass those protections. Meanwhile, police forces are becoming more violent and homicidal without any accountability for policemen shooting and killing unarmed, and sometimes restrained citizens. As more public space is taken from us, more private military contractors supplement police forces at demonstrations against the many injustices We The People face.
Therefore, we are coming together to discuss these struggles and find ways to protect ourselves and public space from these abuses. This discussion will revolve around 3 panels:
- – Jacob’s Plan (Balboa Park)
- – Struggle against Wal Mart (Sherman Heights)
- – Increasing Police Brutality (San Diego & Anaheim)
A couple speakers will share 15-20 minutes of information on each topic, and then the entire group can discuss possible solutions or next steps for another 15-20 minutes. Our best chances to protect what is rightfully ours is to work together as a community.
This meeting is part of a series of Activist San Diego General Meetings held on the 3rd Monday of every month at the Joyce Beers Center. It is best to park in the underground parking for the center as the surrounding parking lot 2 hour time limit is strictly enforced.
