Today, Tuesday, August 21st, there is an important meeting of the Steering Committee of the San Diego Airport Authority group that oversees land use in the airport area.

There is a draft plan being discussed that potentially allows for 50 plus more plans per day, more noise, more airplane routes and over more areas.

Formally called the Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan (ALUCP) Steering Committe, it will meet today from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm (and possibly 5pm) and will be held at the Commuter Terminal on either the 2nd or third floors.

If more planes are being planned, that means more disclosures to either sell or buy a house, it will have effects on property values and safety issues.

The meeting will  focus on questions, comments, or clarifications Steering Committee members may have on the content of the draft ALUCP. Copies of the draft plan will not be available at the meeting.  This meeting is in addition to the Airport Authority’s “ongoing public outreach opportunities and is being held specifically in response to Steering Committee requests to review the document prior to public review, which will occur later this year,” as was stated in an email sent out to members.

Comments may be submitted via alucpcomments@san.org, at the August 21st meeting or by mail to Angie Jamison (SDCRAA, PO Box 82776, San Diego, CA 92138-2776) by August 31st.

I’m curious as to what extra disclosures would be involved in a real estate sale…right now we just use a few blanket “buyer beware” disclosures that say things like if you live near an airport expect it to sound like airplanes and if you live near a farm expect it to smell like animal shit…these provisions are already in the standard Realtors’ Association purchase contract, the Statewide Buyer/Seller Advisory, and the non-mandatory but still commonly used San Diego Local Area Disclosures.

I’m also interested in “customer service” and the lack thereof with the various airlines. In addition to recent news about fiascos with unaccompanied minors, my daughter and her friend (separately) had experiences that should not have happened! I’d like to see airlines that don’t treat their passengers with care and respect be banished from San Diego!

I’ve lived off and on in OB since 1984 and nowadays the airplane noise is truly a non issue. Maybe one or two a day are the older aircraft that bring the “OB pause” if you’re on the phone or watching TV. It’s just not worth complaining about at this stage. We’ve done so much to chase business away from this city and state there’s little reason to shoot ourselves in the foot further with this one.
“US out of OB!”. Funny until you look in your wallet and think maybe they listened.

I confess to a heart felt smile when the 8:05 BA( it is usually late 20 minutes or so) takes off for London. I wish I was on it. The noise is much less than in the 60s. What I worry about is the black soot I wipe off my outdoor table daily.
