Brother Posts Wanted Posters About Ocean Beach

By Chris Dotson and Frank Gormlie

The brother of the most recent sexual assault victim in Ocean Beach has posted a $5,000 reward.  John Wilson is offering this for any information leading to the arrest or conviction of the assailant of his sister August 25th on the 5000 block of Muir Avenue.

Wilson readily acknowledges that his sister was coming home late – about 2:10 a.m. – and walking alone. From his account – which he obviously learned from his sibling –  John’s description of what happened after the victim left her friends’ party can only be described as horrific.

According to Wilson, it’s dark in that part of the street where she was “hit from behind” and initially unable to fight back. Locked in a choke hold, she began fighting back, as he attempted to drag her into the nearby alley. Unable to fully subdue her, the attacker continued hitting the woman in the face while pulling her hoodie over her face, which explains why she is unable to give any solid details or any real description of her attacker.

Wilson stated that even if his sister had mace in her purse, it would not have helped her. Wilson said:

“This man sneaked up behind my sister and hit her in the back of the head which knocked her to the ground and dazed her, he took her backpack and threw it out of her reach and pulled my sisters hoodie over her head while holding her in a choke hold and punching her in the face. . . .”

John’s poster includes two drawings of different attackers. One is a drawing of the attacker from the first incident from August 15th in Robb Field. The other poster image, located on the left, is a composite sketch based upon an incident reported two years ago, which occurred on Adair Street near Ebers Street. In that incident on July 26, 2010, around 6:20 p.m. a man ran up behind a woman jogger and pulled down her shorts, police said. The assailant then ran to an older gray Toyota pickup and drove off. The victim wasn’t injured.

Police said the man in the July 2010 incident was white, 25 to 35 years old, between 5 feet 5 and 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build, dark scraggly neck-length hair and facial hair. He was wearing a gray “beanie” style cap.

Recall, in the attack on August 15th, the victim was groped in Robb Field, and Crime Stoppers has an offering of up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.

San Diego police are still looking for the man who twice rode by a jogger along the San Diego River bike path on August 15th in the morning and groped her. She was jogging between Sports Arena and Sunset Cliffs Blvd when the man rode up to her on a black road bicycle, grabbed her buttocks as he passed. He then hid down the bike path and came up behind her again and assaulted her. Still on the bike, he rode off in a westerly direction.

Police say this could be a felony sexual battery case. The victim reported the assailant is about 25 years of age, about 5 feet and 10 inches, and approximately 160 pounds. He also has freckles over his whole face and a gap between his front teeth; on the day of the assault he had several days growth of a beard.

Detective Tom Jacques of the SDPD does not think the assailants in the two recent attacks are the same guy.  The Sex Crime Unit continues to investigate the second incident, the one where the brother is posting the reward.

Anyone with information about the identity of the August 15th incident in Robb Field is asked to call Detective Tom Jacques at (619) 692-4833; anyone with info on the second incident on Muir Avenue, contact the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477. Anonymous email and text messages can be sent to sdcrimestoppers.com.
