Planning Board recommends upgraded license for Newport Ave. Quick-Stop
The long anticipated completion of the Brighton St. comfort station in Ocean Beach is finally near. Spokesman Mike Patton of City Councilman Kevin Faulconer’s office said that the facility is on schedule to be completed by Memorial Day weekend, just in time to accommodate the crush of beach area visitors that accompany most such holiday weekends.
Phase II is beginning on the OB Entryway project that includes a bike path that connects the entryway to Robb Field. The project will not, however, directly connect the entryway with the bike path along the San Diego River.
Also according to Patton: The City Council is working on a FY 2013 budget that will allow San Diego some breathing room to complete some capital improvement projects, such as streets, sewer system upgrades, and public facility maintenance issues, including possible upgrades to the Ocean Beach library and lifeguard station.
The budget proposal will also allow for public library hours to be increased by four hours per week city wide, and for hours of operation for city owned recreation centers to be increased by five hours per week. The city is also
In addition, the San Diego Police Department will begin to hire new officers, and the San Diego Lifeguards will be getting a new firefighting boat to replace an old one that broke down and was no longer useable by the department.
Planning Board approves recommendation to upgrade liquor license
In a near unanimous vote, the Ocean Beach Planning Board recommended that the Quick-Stop convenience store on Newport Ave. be allowed to upgrade their current liquor license from a beer and wine only to a full Type 21 Alcohol License. The upgraded license will allow the store to sell all types of alcoholic beverages.
The Planning Board is also planning on writing a letter to State Senator Christine Kehoe to inquire about possible funding cuts to publicly funded pre-k children’s programs, specifically the Child Development Center that operates at Ocean Beach Elementary. There are currently 50 children in the program, which funding cuts would eliminate. The next nearest subsidized pre-k program is located in Kearney Mesa, making it difficult to access for Ocean Beach residents.

Oh boy! Oh boy! New cops AND a Brighton St. comfort station. Once it opens I just hope I don’t get tased while taking a leak there.

hey OB, your lifeguard tower funding ($740,000) has been re-allocated (S10119 08/10/2012 /R306656) by pacific beach planners to rush-fund the “design” portion of a brand new 2000sq ft lifeguard tower in north pacific beach for $5million, presumably before the rising ocean levels completely absorb the beach at Law St. at high tide. This over 10 year old city plan (R 296359 04/16/2002) for re-development, doesn’t take into consideration the serious rising ocean levels, and we citizens of PB are trying to halt this futile government action, especially since other unfinished projects are still waiting : ob and la jolla lifeguard towers, fire stations across the county, etc… and teachers and lifeguard salaries are being cut while bathroom /garage remodels take priortity?! oh san diego… get real, hey you council people, take a look at the beach at high tide, quick before it’s gone..
