What happened to the Ebers Street “OB Dude”?

Does anyone know what happened to the “OB Dude”? You know, the woodman that always stood by that cottage on the 1900 block of Ebers Street, across from the small neighborhood park next to the Rec Center. The wood guy with a peace sign on his shirt who always had pithy messages or words on him – that changed with the seasons.

Some of them we recall were “Peace”, “Recycle”, and there was a “Thanks” during Thanksgiving, and “Share” during other holidays.

Where are you, OB Dude? We assume your owner had to move – as the cottage is now up for rent and is empty, according to one of our bloggers, Gail Powell.

Gail drove by t1981 Ebers Street the other day, and searched forlornly for “The Dude” that used to stand guard.  She tells us:

I did my best to come up with some kind of explanation, while waiting for ‘Randy,’ whose cell phone number is on the rental sign perched in the front yard, to return my message for more information on the rental and what happened to “The Dude.” No such luck.

All I can surmise is that whoever once owned “The Dude” and had it posted outside in the front yard has moved. 1981 Ebers St. is empty and for rent. I will continue my righteous pursuit of information and maybe even ask Randy, if he ever returns my calls, for info on where I might manage to contact “The Dude’s” owner. Until then, my heart grows heavy as I pass that address where once “The Dude” reigned and I bid a fond adieu to our wooden friend who spoke so movingly to Ocean Beach with out uttering nary a word.

Please, if you know where the OB Dude is, inform the rest of us. We’d like to know our friend is okay.  Is the word “Rana” a clue?

The creater of the Dude was honored at a OB town council meeting recently and yes he did mention that he was moving out of town but I believe he is in the works of arrangeing to have the “dude” placed in a local elementary school.

Scott, thanks for enlightening the rest of us. Do you recall the creator’s name? And where he moved to?

The creator’s name is Rich Walker of “Raw Art Design”. I can help track him down if you contact me directly (gretchen”dot”newsom”at”gmail”dot”com). And Scott is right, Rich did say that he had bequeathed the Dude to the elementary school.
