Independent Grassroots Education Movement to March From Balboa Park to State Building Downtown to Protest Next Round of Cuts to Budgets

San Diego, CA – March 10th, 2012 – 9:15am – Balboa Park (Park Ave. & Presidents Way)

The next round of education budget cuts will be devastating to our schools, our children, and our teachers. In an effort to be proactive in fostering a change in priorities at the state level, a broad coalition of parents, teachers, students, and concerned citizens will be marching from Balboa Park (corner of Park Ave. & Presidents Way) to the State Building downtown.

This march is being conducted independent of the teachers unions. All are welcome and encouraged to attend and make their voices heard. This is a family friendly event to help calling attention to a broken system plagued with procedural inefficiency at the state level.

This broad coalition of concerned parties will meet at 9:00 am at the corner of Park Ave. & Presidents Way in Balboa Park.

After a short rally, they will proceed through the streets of downtown San Diego to rally once again at the State Building (Corner of Front & A Street).

Speakers from a variety of backgrounds, including State Assembly member Ben Hueso, will speak out on the topic of education funding, state priorities, changing the system to improve efficiency and funding, etc.

Petitions will be available for people to sign and express their desire to see education returned to its rightful place as a priority in the state of California. One petition will ask for adequate funding to be assigned to public education, and another will ask the state to change its fiscal year budgeting process in order to streamline the process for school districts to budget for upcoming school years.
