In protest of the arrests made of Occupy San Diego activists in the early hours of Friday, a protest rally has been called for 8:30 a.m. at the Wells Fargo Bank located at B Street and 5th Avenue, two blocks from the Civic Center Plaza.
At least 44 arrests were made as police swept through both occupation sites – the Plaza and Children’s Park at First and Island.
Calls to the police department and the mayor’s office are encouraged.

Lorena Gonzalez says that you can’t power wash a movement. She will be at Wells Fargo at 8:30 am
Lorena rocks! I love “you can’t power wash a movement”.
Thanks for the email addresses of local council persons. How about compiling a list of email addresses of all Congressmen and Senators? I’ve not been able to find one anywhere. Instead each Congressman makes you fill out a time consuming form for each email. A list of direct email addresses would be helpful in contacting all of them with one mouse click.
You might find this county website helpful. You enter your address and it lists all your local state and federal elected representatives along with contact information:

is there going to be a night time rally? or a nighttime march? i can’t make a morning one.
did people get beaten up and maced by the cops? are there photos? i want to spread the word but i need verification.
local cbs station channel 8 news gave air time to 760 am radio show host mike slater. he’s claiming the occupation has shut down local businesses.
should we call channel 8 news to protest and demand they show proof? or what?
Probably the coffee cart woman in the plaza. But Slater is sort of correct – the goal is to pay back Wall Street for the thousands of local businesses they have destroyed. The goal is to force Wall Street to pay. But Mike Slater and his handlers at KFMB when they intentionally avoid the central focus are clearly advocating for the status quo, for things as they are. But things as they are stink and this is democratic change in action. Change has always required people to take to the streets. The coffee cart woman could easily be back next week. Let’s just say that she and the other businesses having trouble living next to a bank were furloughed for a week – just like so many others.
God, I saw that, was appalled and decided not to get my news from 8 again. I actually had to check the channel setting because I thought I might have tuned into Faux instead!
Wow in the dark of nite !! Sources say 6-10 arrested….
You don’t trust as a source? We said 44, cops says about 50.
Does not matter to me I have no dog in the fight of reliable sources…i just saw 3 web sites and no official number of persons arrested was given……
no big deal to me…….I am sure facts will come to light as the day moves forward.
A friend left this email:
FYI, at the police non-emergency number (619-531-2000) a person answered, after several minutes. I said I support Occupy and was devastated by last night’s police action. He referred me to Community Relations at 619-531-2900. A recording at that number said the person is out till 10/31 (I left a message) and referred me to 619-531-2675, where I also left a message.
Non-violent non-cooperation, also known as civil disobedience, is a strategy that welcomes arrests. Anger and protest about arrests does not fit, if the leadership and rank-and-file embrace the strategy. The arrests would be seen as a victory and the call would be to join a celebration and fill the jails!
I tend to agree, Victor, but I still think it’s legit to protest whenever our government cracks down on our rights to speak freely and to assemble peaceably. I’ll be making calls today to all those local politicians as well as to my Congresswoman Susan Davis, expressing that these arrests are a travesty, and that even politicians who don’t support OWS should certainly support the rights guaranteed in our Constitution.
shouldn’t protesters get training in how to handle police harassment?
is it true occupysd is going to call for a general strike next week? like oakland has planned.
Maybe this will give reason to folks that you can never trust,or make friends with popo.
They are created specifically to protect the class that we protest against. Get a clue folks.
San Diego Police Misconduct hotline number is 619.531.2672
Update from Patty: The Labor Council plans to go to the Civic Center tonight and hold an all night vigil. It is now 9:35, displaced Occupiers have moved from Wells Fargo to n front of the jail. Preliminary report is that those arrested have not been cited and released.
“When one of us is arrested, two more will take her place.”
Update 10:14 Occupiers have returned to Civic Center Plaza and are being allowed to enter a few at a time. Police chief holding a press conference soon.
Just heard on the local newscast, wjhl, out of Johnson City, Tn., 30 protesters arrested at the #occupy nashville protest were released after the night court judge refused to sign the required warrants to keep them in jail. Perhaps this time it won’t be the kids of a draftable age fighting everyone else,( union members, judges, teachers etc.) So far the Unions seem to be on our team. Teachers too!
I visited the site Thursday morning around 10am. Everything was peaceful, but there were a lot of police even then. Just called Todd Gloria to express disappointment in police action.
Correction 51 Arrested …
The Occupy Movement should move to the Foot of Newport in Ocean Beach…..The Web Cam will come in handy so ALL of San Diego can watch in Real time….
A criminal with a badge is still a criminal!! To violate people’s 1st and 4Th Amendment rights under color of authority needs to be prosecuted.
Good luck on that one…
The group had been advised for weeks they were in violation of city ordinance…
they also according to all the videos posted online this morning were given fair waring and advance notice…they sat on the curb and said f off to SDPD…
hummm wonder what they thought was going to happen..
I guess they got what they wanted…they won that battle i guess…..
I believe Editor Dude knows the law on these matters , hopefully he will weigh in soon …
I am a participant of OWS! Not only do I agree that corporations greed and the governments part in creating them, are trying to run us into a 3rd world country, I wonder why police in riot gear operate only in the dark. Afraid of being visualized in the light of day?
I have been at the Civic Center quite often, and I have never witnessed any human waste and filth as so many uninformed people that make such remarks have not been there, or have seen the people that go around with a large plastic bag routinely visiting each group for their trash, or the young lady that routinely sweeps the floor of the center.
Open your eyes and let yourselves see what the reality is!!!!!
OCCUPY SAN DIEGO…………………………………………………………………………………………
Agree, Lois. I thought the occupiers were doing a great job policing the area and actually have posted to that effect. They were inhabiting the space responsibly.
Will Critical Mass visit OSD tonight?
Critical Mass showed up, cheers went up from the hundreds of people in the plaza and it was AWESOME. Heard there were close to 1,000 of them.
I am uploading video to Youtube of Critical Mass entering the plaza, but it’ll be a little while before the upload finishes and I am flat out of gas. Check our channel later and the video will post when the upload finishes. Good night all!
Jim grant. It’s an occupation not a vacation.
Jack Elveny:
Thank you. It is so tedious that these people claim “unsanitary conditions” , especially when they have not been there. If such situations existed, the SD occupiers would be on it right away. The people that claim these incidents are the lazy, uninformed cowards, not the Occupy San Diego people. As a registered nurse, with a year of Law, I was alway taught if you have something to report, you are required to back up your statements. These people should educate their lazy selves before opening their mouths.
Yea, Occupy San Diego. I am so proud of you standing up for what is really going on!!!!!!! I was happy to participate in the SPFPA yesterday. I was the first “token” female to be hired at Transit with my gun permit and a graduate of the Security Program at Grossmont College. However, I was placed in the radio room for my accomplishments, at the hire cost of $9.00 an hour. Speaking of security, I could not believe at the time that Security personnel who picked up the money from businesses made only $14.00 an hour? ?????????????????
Why are police in riot gear showing up in the dark? Afraid their tactics will be visualized in the light of day? Where the citizens of San Diego can see them? YEA, Occupy San Diego!!!!!!!
Jack McElvaney: Sorry for misspelling your name. Did I get it right this time? Anyway, GO Ocuppy San Diego.
