The Ocean Beach Town Council is holding its annual election to its Board on Wednesday, August 24th. And there are a whole bunch of openings. Four of the 8 seats up for election have been vacant for a while – which means there are no incumbents for those seats.
If you are interested in running for the Board, which meets twice monthly, you need to submit a “Letter of Intent” and have it delivered by midnight, August 15th. Here is the link to the OBTC’s website.
The local town council does need a few good OB citizens to join their organization. Particularly someone who has some web experience (as the OBTC website is waaaaayyy outta date – its subject material is dated from 2009).

The object and purpose of the Ocean Beach Town Council is to express the will and represent the welfare of the community of Ocean Beach by:
•Providing a forum for the discussion of community issues
•Communicating the views and needs of the community to the appropriate agencies

•Promoting the general betterment and beautification of Ocean Beach and the welfare of its residents
•Fostering cooperative efforts among all community organization and residents for their mutual benefit.

I guess this lack of information isn’t surprising after last year’s election hijinks and shenanigans.
The consiracy theorist in me tells me that these folks don’t want the word out that there are vacant seats going into an election. Otherwise, they’d have to answer the question….Why can’t this organization fill its Board of Directors? How pathetic.
What is that anyway? Vacant seats for a “long time”? My sources tell me they’ve been vacant for the entire year. That begs the question….Why? My instinct tells me that folks just don’t want to work with the leadership of this group after last year’s obviously dispicable action of denying you the right to run or be on the board. Even with so many vacancies.
Can’t we get some more info on this somehow like an interview with that Musgrove guy or however is running the election this year Frank??? We all know that things “aren’t quite kosher” between all of you from last year but hey…WE folks want to know what is going on and that other “local paper” isn’t and has never covered OB politics.
If we don’t even know the candidates, how do we decide who to elect???
Ok…follow up to my own comment. I just checked the Beacon and there isn’t anything in there about the elections or candidates. Can we get some OB coverage on this or what? C’mon OBRag’sters somebody dig into this and find out why this is so poorly advertised.

2011 Ocean Beach Town Council
Board of Directors Election
There are 15 seats on the OB Town Council Board of Directors. Directors
are elected by OBTC members for two year terms. Half of the Board
stands for election every year, seven members in even numbered years
and eight members in odd numbered years. This year, 2011, eight seats
on the OBTC Board of Directors are up for election this year. Directors
are obligated to attend two meetings each month (second and fourth
Wednesdays), and should expect to participate on OBTC committees
and work at the various events and activities of OBTC throughout the
year. Candidates must live in, or own property in, or operate or work for a
business at a physical location within, the 92107 ZIP code, must be OBTC
members in good standing (dues paid), and must be at least 18 years old
at the time of election.
If you are interested in serving on the OBTC Board, please submit a letter
of intent declaring your candidacy, stating your reasons for wanting to join
the OBTC Board, and describing any relevant experience or skills. Letters
can be submitted by regular mail, and must be postmarked before midnight
Monday, August 15, 2011. Post your letter to OBTC Election Committee,
P.O. Box 7225, San Diego, CA 92167. Alternatively, Email can be sent to
jimmusgrove@mac.com with “Letter of Intent” in the Subject line. Email
letters must be time stamped before midnight Monday, August 15, 2011.
Voting for OBTC Board Members takes place in the second half of August.
All candidates will be invited to address the Open OBTC Meeting on
August 24, 2011. The term of office for newly elected Board Members will
start at the Board Meeting on October 12, 2011.
