San Diego Pride

San Diego’s Pride Parade was Saturday 16 July, and its images are telling.

There are a couple in every crowd.

But these folks were much nicer.
Our first openly gay active duty military contingent joined the parade — yippee!

God is still love.

The parade had a bevy of beauties.
And the Human Rights Campaign billowed.

These folks celebrated on a roll.

And this fellow enjoyed the simple pleasures.
Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays are lifesavers.

The Green Party was there — not sure about the Republican Party.

Jim and Dale were still celebrating their big day — that’s Pride.
And LGBT seniors were still leading the way.

Some folks tried to promote hate.

But this fellow would have none of it.

And the crowd cheered!

Now, it’s on to equality!

Kit- Great photos and commentary. San Diego made national news because of the presence of openly gay & lesbian active military members.

I always miss these anti gay nuts. I guess I’m always too busy drinking a lot and having fun to notice them.

I am currently teaching a pre law class on base. All of my students are either active or former military (yes I know, once a marine always a marine). Tonight before class started, I asked how everyone’s weekend was, and to stimulate conversation, I asked what their thoughts were about the active military personnel marching in last Saturday’s parade. My first surprise was when one of the students (who is active) raised his hand and told us he had marched. The second surprise came from the students who wanted to ask him all sorts of questions about the event and his decision. Not one student had anything to say except positive comments to him. It is these little glimpses into what our world can be which give me hope.

I will try to load the photos he forwarded to me later when I return home.

Peace to all of you, Jack

That’s been my experiences with Marines, Jack. I’m married to one (makes for lively dinner table repartee), and most of the old fart retired guys who come over to jaw positively acknowledge LGBT folks with whom they’ve worked, who are, of course, Marines first and foremost. I suspect the military leaders who continued to support DADT are politicians first and foremost.
