Stand in solidarity with the workers of the world and demand respect for the rights of all workers on May 1, International Workers’ Day!
With unemployment still at record highs, and with union membership at record lows, it’s time for working people to take a moment, and contemplate what this day really means. We have published articles on May Day in the past and they are more relevant today than ever. With the anti-labor sentiment that is rocking our country it is important to stand together and be heard.
There are a few May Day events taking place in San Diego on Sunday, May 1. The participants at each event will march together to meet at Civic Center Plaza at 3 p.m. to hold a May Day Rally. Please feel free to attend an earlier event, listed below, or join us at Civic Center Plaza for the closing rally and action. The events last year were amazing, with thousands of people descending upon downtown San Diego.

Who will show up to this pro-union event in their non-union made car/ truck?
“We can hang together, or we will hang individually.”
Ben Franklin
or,
“What goes around … comes around.”
Say, tj, which cars/trucks are you talking about? Do you really mean the ones that are made in other countries? Because if that is what you mean, then of course most of the ones from Europe or Japan are in fact union-made. And, of course, with the way the globalized capitalists are doing it now, hardly anything (especially cars and trucks) are made entirely in any one country. Parts are produced and assembled all over the world.
When we think about hanging together or hanging alone, we better not worship those weird (and constantly shifting) lines on the map that tell us the General Motors worker on one side of the “border” is somehow different from the General Motors worker on the other side of that line. “We” includes all of us, on all sides of those weird lines on the map.
I will be on the trolley to Chicano Park, then on to downtown to meet up with Frank. Look for me under the OB Rag banner.
Where was everybody? At the beach?
Sleeping, I worked til 8am the night before.
We were there, just slow to post about it…
Also, please see Patty’s report on May Day and my analysis just posted Tuesday.
